history

The Bayernliga was called Landesliga Bayern in its first five seasons (1945 to 1950) and was the second highest division.

From its formation as the fourth division in 1963/64 (foundation of the Bundesliga ) until 2011/12, the current state league was divided into the North, Middle and South squadrons. From 1994/95 she was fifth class (reintroduction of the regional leagues ) , with the 2008/09 season sixth class (introduction of the 3rd division ). Until 2010/11, the champions from each of the three seasons qualified for the Bayern League. The three second-placed clubs determined the last participant in a relegation round with the fourth from bottom of the Bayernliga. The substructure of division made up from 1988/89 to 2011/12, the Bezirksoberliga which in seven seasons (for every Bavarian administrative region was divided).

Since the 2012/13 season, the regional league has been divided into five regional groups, Northwest, Northeast, Middle, Southwest and Southeast, and represents the sixth highest division. 15 seasons of the district league form the foundation, the district upper leagues have been deleted.

In March 2020, the current 2019/20 season was interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic . If the circumstances allow, it is to be continued from September 2020 and thus extended until 2021.
