The 1. FC Bayreuth is an established in 1910 Sport Club of Bayreuth .

Soccer

During the first eleven years of its existence, the footballers played under the umbrella of the Bayreuth gymnastics club. Before one of the first competitions he gave the athletes the following instructions: “With all physical dexterity and quick thought, which spies and uses all the gaps in the opponent, the strikers try to cross the enemy line and then bring the ball into the open field , where it flies rapidly towards the goal, the small goal housing. "

Until the Second World War, FC dominated football in Bayreuth. In 1926, the black and whites were promoted to the then first-class Bavarian regional league, in which they played together with the top German teams of 1. FC Nürnberg and SpVgg Fürth ; However, the Bayreuthers got stuck in the table cellar every year. This changed just in time for the last season of the district league as the top division, when the Wagnerstadt team qualified with a fourth place for the Gauliga Bayern introduced in 1933 . But the new league proved to be too strong for the Upper Franconians and so they had to march back to the now second-rate district league after just one season in the new top league in 1934 . They succeeded in resuming their ascent immediately, but they were also relegated in 1936 . During the Second World War , 1. FC formed a war syndicate with other Bayreuth clubs , which in 1944 was promoted to the Gauliga. It is not known whether the game was still open in the 1944/45 season .

After the war, local rivals SpVgg Bayreuth took over the leadership role in the city and the black and whites only appeared on a national level between 1965 and 1975 when they were involved in the 1st Amateur League Bavaria for a few seasons .

On May 14, 2003, the soccer department of 1. FC merged with that of BSV 98 Bayreuth to form FSV Bayreuth. The new team made it into the Landesliga Nordost and played in the county league last season. In March 2020 it was announced that the FC wanted to start again with their own team in the A-class for the coming season. The FC start-up will not have any influence on the first FSV team.

Table tennis

The table tennis department rose from the state league to the first division seven times between 1986/87 and 1993/94 . The driving force was the manager Heinz Grauling. The players Vasile Florea , Jürgen Hegenbarth, Piotr Molenda , Thomas Ogunrinde , Lu Qiwei, Jörg Budzisz, Haward Speer and Heiko Schuler won promotion to the Bundesliga . Ogunrinde was the first African player in the first division in 1994.

The team reached 9th place in 1994/95, 8th a year later and had to be relegated to 10th place at the end of the 1996/97 season. In the following season, the club reached first place in the second division, but refrained from promotion for financial reasons. At the end of the 1998/99 season, the club withdrew the team from the Second Bundesliga.

Boxing

The boxing department of 1. FC brought out Gerhard Schoberth, a German amateur champion in middle (1984) and light heavyweight (1989). In 1987, 1988 and 1991 Schoberth was German runner-up.

American football

The American football team Bayreuth Dragons is a division of 1. FC Bayreuth. The Dragons, founded in 1999, were initially affiliated with Post-SV and started gaming operations in 2000. The men's team won the Bavarian championship in 2004 and rose to the regional league, in 2003 and 2005 the Bavarian youth championship was won.

In 2011 they switched to 1. FC Bayreuth, under whose roof the Bayreuth Broncos and the Bayreuth Raiders had already played before the turn of the millennium. In 2019, the Dragons were the largest division within the club in terms of numbers.
