The North Bavarian Courier is a daily newspaper that appears in the city and district of Bayreuth . With several local editions, it achieved a sold circulation of 28,416 copies, a decrease of 33.1 percent since 1998.

history

The newspaper was founded on January 2nd, 1968. At that time, the Bayreuther Tagblatt and the Fränkische Presse merged to form the North Bavarian Courier . The editors are Wolfgang Ellwanger and Laurent Fischer, whose fathers were already involved in the production of the previous newspapers. The Ellwanger family has a 37.5 percent stake in the Nordbayerischer Kurier publishing house , while the heirs of Julius Steeger and Walter Fischer, who founded the Franconian Press in 1945 as a licensed newspaper, hold 62.5 percent . The North Kurier newspaper publisher GmbH & Co. KG is one of 62.5% of the printing house publishing Bayreuth mbH , at the 47.5% that of the SPD owned German Print and Publishers Society mbH (DDVG) is involved.

At the beginning of April 2016, the publisher announced that the Ellwanger family was selling their share to Druckhaus Bayreuth Verlagsgesellschaft mbH , which would then become the sole shareholder. Because of the ongoing antitrust proceedings , Wolfgang Ellwanger, who resigned as publisher and co-editor on April 1, 2016, initially did not comment on this. On June 23, 2016, Nordbayerischer Kurier announced on its own account that Frankenpost would take over the shares in DDVG , subject to approval by the Federal Cartel Office . This would mean that Frankenpost would hold 65 percent of the shares in Nordbayerischer Kurier in the future, the rest would remain with Laurent Fischer. A close cooperation between the two newspapers is planned.

From March 1, 2011 until the end of January 2016, Joachim Braun was editor-in-chief of Nordbayerischer Kurier . On February 1, 2016, he moved to the Frankfurter Neue Presse , his successor being Christina Knorz. On March 1, 2018, Torsten Geiling took over the position of editor-in-chief, from whom the Nordbayerischer Kurier separated again at the beginning of September of that year. Deputy editor-in-chief is Otto Lapp.

In November 2018 it was announced that the Nordbayerischer Kurier would cease printing operations in Bayreuth on April 30, 2019. From May 2019 the newspaper will be printed in the Hof printing center .

Acquisition of national content

The shell sides moved into the North Kurier by the end of 2012 from Nordbayerischer ring dailies (RNT) , based in Bayreuth. After the sale of the Obermain-Tagblatt in Lichtenfels, co-partner of RNT, to Main-Post Würzburg, which belongs to the Media Group Pressedruck ( Augsburger Allgemeine ) , the RNT was completely integrated into the Kurier editorial team. There has been a service contract with Main-Post since 2009. The North Bavarian Courier has access to their supraregional material.

The distribution organization VSO - Distribution Service Upper Franconia, which is connected to the advertising paper, takes on the distribution of FC household direct deliveries to almost 700,000 households per week throughout Upper Franconia and the northern Upper Palatinate.
