The Bremen-Liga , 2017-2019 officially Stark Bremen-Liga (proper spelling Stark Bremen-Liga occasionally) Oberliga Bremen called, is the top division of Bremer Football Association , which covers the territory of the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven is responsible . Clubs from the Lower Saxony area can also play in it. Together with eleven other major leagues , the Bremen League forms the fifth highest level in the league system in Germany .
overview
1947-1949
Between 1947 and 1949, a joint game operation was carried out in Lower Saxony and Bremen. The clubs from Bremen and Bremerhaven played in the Bremen season of the five-track state league Lower Saxony together with clubs from Lower Saxony from the surrounding area.
1949-1963
From 1949, the Bremen Football Association organized its own game operation. For the 1949/50 season, the Bremen Amateur League started with 14 clubs; from 1955 she played with 15 clubs. The league was the next lower class under the Football Oberliga Nord and thus the second highest class until 1963. The rise was possible through a promotion round with clubs from the amateur leagues of Lower Saxony, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. The rise to the league only succeeded in 1948 Bremerhaven 93 and in 1961 the Bremer SV .
1963-1974
In 1963 with the introduction of the Bundesliga with the dissolution of the Oberliga Nord and the creation of the Regionalliga Nord , the league fell to third place, but remained largely unchanged with 15 clubs. The Bremen master had to win promotion games in order to be promoted. The league played from 1973 with 16 clubs.
1974-1994
After the 1973/74 season, the Regionalliga Nord was dissolved in favor of the 2nd Bundesliga North . The Oberliga Nord was newly introduced in Northern Germany as the 3rd division below the 2nd Bundesliga. For the amateur league this meant a downgrade to the 4th division. It was renamed Verbandsliga Bremen .
1994-2008
In 1994 the Regionalliga Nord was reintroduced, now as the 3rd division. The Oberliga Nord was divided into two leagues, the Oberliga Niedersachsen / Bremen and the Oberliga Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein. For the Association League Bremen this meant a further descent, now to the 5th division. For the first time, however, direct promotion to the next higher class was possible. In 2004 it was decided to reintroduce the Oberliga Nord instead of two separate leagues. The league winners of the 2006/07 season, Bremer SV and FC Bremerhaven , did not receive a league license and therefore did not get promoted.
Since 2008
With the introduction of the 3rd league , the Oberliga Nord was dissolved again in 2008 and replaced by newly founded or already existing leagues at the association level of the four northern German states, which are still located under the Regionalliga Nord. Since then, the league has had the status of a major league at the fifth level of the league system and mostly retaining the name Bremen-Liga . The Bremen champion can only rise through promotion games with the league winners from Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.
Since the 2008/09 season, three teams from Bremen have played over the Bremen League:
- Werder Bremen (Bundesliga)
- Werder Bremen II (3rd division)
- FC Oberneuland (Regionalliga North)
With only around 75 member clubs , the Bremen FV is the smallest DFB regional association, followed by the Saarland Football Association with around 390 clubs.
For the 2017/18 season, the league received a title sponsor for the first time, the Stuhr-based company Stark Gebäudereinigung GmbH . The league should therefore be called the Stark Bremen League for at least three and a maximum of five years . The sponsorship ended prematurely at the end of the 2018/19 season, as the title sponsor exercised an early termination right, which he held in the event that the hoped-for advertising effect did not occur.
