The FC Oberneuland is a football club with nearly 600 members from the Bremen district Oberneuland . The club's flagship is the soccer team that plays in the Bremen League and has taken part in the DFB Cup competition several times .

history

The Oberneuland football club was founded on April 13, 1948 in the Zum Dorfkrug pub . In 1996, the club rose to the Oberliga Niedersachsen / Bremen and belonged to this league until 2004, when it was unable to qualify for the newly founded Oberliga Nord . But since the club had good financial sponsors and is located in the wealthiest district of Bremen, high-ranking players from Werder Bremen also took on responsibility, and so after two years in the Bremen Association League, the promotion was successful in 2006.

Although Oberneuland could not qualify in the 2007/08 season as ninth in the table, FC Oberneuland was nominated as Bremen representative for the relegation because FC Bremerhaven did not get a license for the regional league. In games against MTV Gifhorn , VfB Oldenburg , VfL Oldenburg and SC Victoria Hamburg , the FCO prevailed and celebrated promotion to the regional league on June 15, 2008. After the FCO had occupied ninth place in the table in the 2008/09 season , they only reached 16th place in the table in the following season and were thus relegated in terms of sport. However, since Hansa Rostock withdrew his second team to the Oberliga Nordost , the FCO also competed in the regional league in the 2010/11 season . The club was relegated to the Bremen league as 17th, but managed to get promoted again in the 2011/12 season and thus qualified for the new Regionalliga Nord .

FC Oberneuland made headlines when it signed former Bundesliga top scorer Aílton in July 2010 . Aílton was rarely able to meet the expectations placed in him and dissolved his contract in February 2011. He had previously stayed away from the training camp to prepare for the second half of the season without excuse.

At the end of the 2012/13 season , the North German Football Association refused the club the regional league license for the coming season. Up until May 17, 2013, FC Oberneuland would have had time to submit further documents in order to still receive the license for the new season, but on May 16, 2013 insolvency proceedings were opened against FC Oberneuland and thus all of Bremen's games were closed taken from the rating of the current regional league season, which sealed the relegation. The remaining three league games were no longer played. The opening of insolvency proceedings had no effect on participation in the Bremen Cup , so Oberneuland played the final in the state cup against SG Aumund-Vegesack on May 20, 2013, but lost it 4-0. As a result, the team did not succeed in qualifying for a starting place in the DFB Cup in the coming season - this would have been associated with a lucrative entry bonus. A day later, the club confirmed that it had temporarily stopped playing. For the 2013/14 season, Oberneuland started in the Bremen State League . The season was not very successful, so that the club was relegated to 16th in the district league. In the following season, FC Oberneuland was able to secure the championship and thus played again in the Bremen Landesliga in the 2015/16 season. A year later they managed to march through again in the Landesliga Bremen and rose to the Bremen League.

Participation in the DFB Cup

FC Oberneuland took part in the DFB Cup in 1993, 2003 and from 2008 to 2012 . He lost it in 1993 to Chemnitzer FC on August 24th with 1: 8 and 1. FC Köln on August 30, 2003 with 2: 5 a. V. In the DFB Cup 2008/09 , FC Oberneuland reached the 2nd round for the first time after the second division TuS Koblenz had been defeated 6: 5 on penalties. In round 2, however, the team had to admit defeat to Bundesliga club and later German champions VfL Wolfsburg 7-0. After the club had qualified again for the first round of the 2009/10 DFB Cup , FC Oberneuland met Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim there . Until the break they were able to keep a 0-0, before TSG 1899 surely prevailed with 2-0. The club was also able to qualify for the first main round of the 2010/11 DFB Cup and was drawn by the Bundesliga club SC Freiburg . Freiburg won 1-0. In 2011/12, FC Oberneuland took part in the DFB Cup again and received FC Ingolstadt for the first round . Against the second division, the FCO had to admit defeat 1: 4.

On June 16, 2012 they qualified for the DFB-Pokal 2012/13 with a 2-0 win against Brinkumer SV , which also made their fifth participation in a row perfect. There the FCO received the defending champion Borussia Dortmund in the first main round in Bremen's Weserstadion , to whom he lost 3-0. After five DFB Cup appearances in a row, this series broke when the final in the state cup was lost 4-0 to SG Aumund-Vegesack on May 20, 2013 . Thus, instead of FC Oberneuland, SG Aumund-Vegesack, which is playing in the Bremen League, competed in the 2013/14 DFB Cup . The eighth title win in the state cup against Blumenthaler SV on August 22, 2020 after a penalty shoot-out meant qualification for participation in the first main round of the DFB Cup 2020/21 with Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach as an opponent.
