Beginnings

Brandt began his career in the youth teams of SC Borgfeld and FC Oberneuland . For the 2011/12 season he moved to the VfL Wolfsburg youth training center . In Lower Saxony he was initially used in the U17; there he scored 14 goals in 25 games in the B-Junioren-Bundesliga . For the 2012/13 season Brandt moved up to the U19 . In his first season in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga he scored 13 goals in 23 games in the regular season. In the final round, at the end of which Brandt and his team won the championship in the final against Hansa Rostock , he scored another goal in three appearances. In the first half of the 2013/14 season , he scored six more goals in 14 games.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Brandt moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen during the winter break of the 2013/14 season . He signed a professional contract that ran until June 30, 2019. On February 15, 2014 (21st matchday), he played his first Bundesliga appearance in the 2-1 defeat at home against FC Schalke 04 when he came on for Heung-Min Son in the 82nd minute . On February 18, 2014 he made his European debut in the first leg of the first leg in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain , in which he was substituted on in the second half. In his seventh Bundesliga game for Leverkusen, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in the 1: 2 defeat in the away game at Hamburger SV on April 4, 2014 (29th matchday) with the 1-1 goal in the 58th minute. On December 7, 2016, he scored his first Champions League goal in the home game against AS Monaco with the 2-0 goal. From the 2016/17 season he was definitely one of the regular members of the team.

His contract term at Bayer 04 Leverkusen was extended early in April 2018 to mid-2021.

In his last season for Bayer, Brandt provided the most assists and, as a leader in attacking midfield, played a significant role in reaching fourth place, with which the team was able to qualify for the Champions League.

In the context of Football Leaks it became known that Brandt's father Jürgen had negotiated a contract with the club himself in the course of signing the contract with Bayer Leverkusen, which initially gave him 300,000 euros and up to 250,000 for each subsequent season his son played in Leverkusen Euro should have brought in.

Borussia Dortmund

For the season 2019/20 Brandt moved to Borussia Dortmund . He received a contract that ran until June 30, 2024. In August 2019, Brandt won his first title with the club when the double winner of the previous season, FC Bayern Munich , was defeated 2-0 in the DFL Supercup . On matchday 1, the midfielder was on the field for the first time after a substitution for BVB in the Bundesliga and scored the 5-1 final against FC Augsburg . Initially, head coach Favre put the North German, who had to struggle with adjustment difficulties due to the higher level of performance, on the wings until he finally found the role in midfield that he had already played convincingly in Leverkusen and that Mario Götze actually held before his performance low. Sometimes central, sometimes offensive, Brandt, who was able to establish himself as a regular player from November 2019, was soon a fixed point in the team's structure. While teammates like Axel Witsel behind him ensured peace and order, it was Brandt's job to set offensive accents and serve the strikers and wingers. After the injury-related loss of the captain Marco Reus , the offensive player also began to take his important position as the last man behind the mostly solo striker. He was runner-up with BVB and was able to collect 20 scorer points.
