Beginnings in Brazil

Reinier grew up in a middle-class family in Brasília and played futsal from the age of 9 in Rio de Janeiro with CR Vasco da Gama , Botafogo FR and Fluminense Rio de Janeiro . At the age of 12 he switched to football and joined Flamengo Rio de Janeiro . In the club's renowned youth academy, the former defensive midfielder matured into one of the most promising and talented “ tens ” in Brazilian football.

With good performances in the junior selections in the club and the national team, the 17-year-old Reinier moved into the focus of various top European clubs in summer 2019, even without having played a single competitive game for Flamengo up to this time. He played his first game for the first team on August 1, 2019 in the second leg of the second leg of the Copa Libertadores against CS Emelec . He made his league debut three days later in the 3-0 away defeat against EC Bahia . In his second appearance on September 7th (18th matchday) in the 3-0 away win against Avaí FC , he scored his first goal. On November 9, he extended his contract with the Rubro-Negro until October 31, 2024. Two weeks later, he and his team won the Copa Libertadores. In addition, a day later in the Brazilian championship, the preliminary decision was made in favor of Flamengo and Reinier was able to celebrate this title with his team. The game in 2019 ended Reinier with six goals in 14 league games.

Change to Europe

On January 20, 2020, Reinier moved to Spain for Real Madrid . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2026 and joined the second team in February after the Olympic qualifying tournament . After Vinícius Júnior (2018 from Flamengo) and Rodrygo (2019 from FC Santos ), Reinier was the third 18-year-old Brazilian to be signed by Real Madrid in 2018 and initially played in the second team. Reinier played 3 times in the third-rate Segunda División B and scored 2 goals before the season in March was interrupted and later canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

For the 2020/21 season, Reinier moved to Borussia Dortmund on loan to the Bundesliga for two years . He followed the example of Achraf Hakimi , who had previously played for BVB as a loan player from Real Madrid for two seasons.

National team

Reinier played from October 2018 to March 2019 for the Brazilian U17 national team , of which he was the captain. With her he took part in the U17 South American Championship in Peru , where he was eliminated with the team after the group stage, but scored three goals in the four group games and prepared two more.

At the beginning of 2020, the offensive player was involved with one goal in the qualification of the U23s in his home country for the Olympic football tournament in summer 2021; Brazil didn't lose a game.

Style of play

In his home country, the “ ten ” is considered to be a “playmaker” and “possible successor” of Kaká . His strengths lie in his technical skills, a good eye for the other players and a "pronounced game intelligence". The Brazilian Zinedine Zidane , under whom he was allowed to train with the professionals of Real Madrid, is a footballing role model . He tried “as a child” to “internalize his playing style and trickery”. Jorge Jesus , who in turn trained Reinier at Flamengo, assesses his former player as "emotionally very mature".
