Beginnings in Madrid

Born and raised in Spain to Moroccan parents, Hakimi began playing football at CD Colonia Ofigevi . In 2006 he came to Real Madrid and played through all youth teams. Between 2015 and 2017 he took part with the U19 team in the Youth League , from which they were eliminated in both seasons in the semi-finals. In August 2016, the defender made his debut for the second team of the club in the Segunda División B .

In January 2017, Hakimi was in the professional team's squad for the first time against Celta Vigo , but was not used. In the 2017/18 season he was permanently promoted to the professional squad and made his debut in the Primera División at the beginning of October . He played a total of 17 competitive games during the season and scored two goals. At the end of the season, he became the first Moroccan to win the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid .

Borussia Dortmund

For the 2018/19 season, Hakimi switched to Borussia Dortmund on loan in the Bundesliga for two years . He scored his first goal in the Bundesliga in the 7-0 home win of BVB against 1. FC Nürnberg on September 26, 2018. From the 5th matchday on, the Moroccan, who was used defensively on both the right and left, was a regular player and was able to earn ten scorer points. On matchday 27, Hakimi suffered a broken metatarsus in the 2-0 home win against VfL Wolfsburg and was out for the rest of the season, which BVB finished as runner-up.

In August 2019, he won his first title with the club after his return, when the double winner of the previous season, FC Bayern Munich , was defeated 2-0 in the DFL Supercup . In the 2019/20 season , the Moroccan was still a regular under head coach Favre , who started using him more and more in midfield from October. This was due on the one hand to his offensive urge and his speed, as well as his deficits in defense on the other. In addition, Favre bet on the right on Łukasz Piszczek and after the switch to a three-man chain only on the central defender. Hakimi was the only BVB player to play 45 competitive games and was the club's most successful goalscorer in the Champions League with four goals. He was able to score five more league goals himself and prepare ten, which put him in the top 10 list of Bundesliga assistants, and was also runner-up with the club in Dortmund in his second year in Dortmund. Despite efforts on the part of BVB, no further loan deal could be arranged and Hakimi left the club after the end of the contract.

Inter Milan

For the 2020/21 season Hakimi moved to the Italian Serie A for Inter Milan . He signed a contract until June 30, 2025.

National team

Hakimi first played for the Moroccan U23 team . On October 11, 2016, he made his debut in a friendly against Canada as a substitute in the senior national team . In May 2018 he was appointed to the Moroccan squad for the 2018 World Cup . After a 2-2 draw against Spain and two 0-1 defeats against Portugal and Iran , Morocco was the last in Group B to be eliminated from the tournament. Hakimi was used in all three games.

Style of play

Hakimi is used as a defender on the defensive flanks, preferred on the right side due to his strong right foot. Similar to his former Dortmund team- mates Łukasz Piszczek or Raphaël Guerreiro , he often shows an offensive urge and can cause danger in the opposing penalty areas from the wings. His speed also benefits him here (in the first half of the 2019/20 season , the Moroccan achieved the Bundesliga record of 36.21 km / h ). Under Lucien Favre , Hakimi also played more in the right midfield in the 2019/20 season.
