society

Katterbach, who comes from Dreiborn in the Eifel , is the son of a chimney sweep and a former restaurant employee, was registered by his parents at the age of seven for a trial training session at 1. FC Köln , where he was able to convince. As a result, there was a discussion about the great expense that the boy's academic performance could suffer as a result. The family initially refused admission to the youth training center. Later, however, the parents phoned 1. FC Köln; the last squad place was already taken, but the club made an exception and took Katterbach on as the twelfth player. The parents then drove their son to Cologne several times a week before he finally moved to the sports boarding school.

At 1. FC Köln, Katterbach went through all the youth teams and is currently part of the U19 squad as well as the professional squad. After training with the first men's team from the summer of 2018, he made his debut on October 5, 2019 as the left defender against FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga . Until the season break ordered due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the defender played eleven more top division games, most of them over the full season. In May 2020, his contract in Cologne was extended to June 2024 within the season break.
