Dennis Diekmeier (born October 20, 1989 in Thedinghausen ) is a German soccer player . He can be used as a right midfielder and as a right-back and has been under contract with SV Sandhausen since January 2019 .

Career

In the club

youth

Diekmeier started playing football at TSV Bierden and later played for TSV Verden before moving to the youth department of SV Werder Bremen in 2003. For the 2008/09 season he was promoted to the squad of Bremen's second team, which played in the third division . At the same time Diekmeier was also part of the first team. At Werder he was mostly used in midfield.

1. FC Nuremberg

In January 2009 Diekmeier moved to the then second division club 1. FC Nürnberg and was there in all games in the second half of the season and in both relegation games. The kicker sports magazine named him the third best full-back in the second half of the season. On the first day of the Bundesliga season 2009/10 Diekmeier was voted into the "Eleven of the day" of the kicker. After eight game days, Diekmeier was the only Nuremberg goalkeeper who had played through in every game, along with goalkeeper Schäfer. In the final training session a day before the ninth matchday, however, he suffered an allergy shock, which is why an emergency doctor was even flown in by helicopter. Still, Diekmeier should play. However, two hours before the start of the game, he was given a protective ban because one of the drugs was on the doping list. A lawn mold allergy was later diagnosed as triggering the shock. During the winter break, VfL Wolfsburg offered an estimated four million euros for Diekmeier. The transfer did not take place.

Hamburger SV

Instead, Diekmeier moved to Hamburger SV in the summer of 2010 , whose home games he attended as a child and whose fan he has been since childhood. Due to an injury, he came to his first appearance on matchday 27. In the 6-2 home win against 1. FC Köln, he was put in the starting line-up by coach Michael Oenning and replaced by Guy Demel in the 55th minute . In his eight years Diekmeier was mostly a regular as a right-back under various coaches. In February 2018, negotiations on an extension of his expiring contract failed. Only at the end of the 2017/18 season Diekmeier came under the new coach Christian Titz to the relegation-threatened club in the last eight games and was otherwise not in the matchday squad. After the first descent in the history of HSV, Diekmeier left the club when his contract expired and has since been without a club despite various offers. With a personal trainer , he kept himself fit for a new club.

SV Sandhausen

At the beginning of January 2019 Diekmeier joined the relegation-threatened second division club SV Sandhausen , with whom he received a contract that ran until June 30, 2020. He was used in 16 league games by the end of the 2018/19 season , in which the club achieved relegation. Before the 2019/20 season, Diekmeier extended his contract until June 30, 2022 and was also appointed vice-captain by coach Uwe Koschinat . Since the actual captain Stefan Kulovits was out for the entire first half of the season due to an injury, Diekmeier played all 17 first half matches as captain for SVS. Regular player since the beginning of the season, he was still captain in the second half of the season. In the 1-0 away win against SV Wehen Wiesbaden on matchday 28, Diekmeier scored his first goal in his 294th professional game. He played a total of 33 league games during the season (all from the start) and scored another goal of the season against HSV in the Volksparkstadion on the last day of the match .

In the national team

Diekmeier became European champion in 2008 with the German U19 national team . During the tournament in the Czech Republic , he usually played as a right full-back. Following the final round, he was awarded the Fritz Walter Medal in gold .
