Eugen Polanski , Polish Bogusław Eugeniusz Polański (born March 17, 1986 in Sosnowiec , Silesian Voivodeship ), is a former Polish football player and current coach . The midfielder Polanski, who also has German citizenship, had played through various German junior national teams before playing for the Polish senior team from 2011 to 2014 .
He is employed by Borussia Mönchengladbach .
Career
society
Polanski's parents emigrated to Germany as repatriates with the two-year-old Eugen in 1988 and settled in Viersen on the Lower Rhine . There he started playing football at Concordia Viersen and attended the Erasmus-von-Rotterdam-Gymnasium . In 1994 he moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach , for whom he played in the youth teams for ten years. In addition, Polanski attended the higher vocational school of the vocational college for economics and administration in Mönchengladbach .
From the 2004/05 season he was part of the Borussia professional squad. He scored his first goal in his third Bundesliga game on November 19, 2005 in a 1-1 draw against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In the second half of the 2005/06 season he was a regular in defensive midfield . In 2006/07 he was only used sporadically and Mönchengladbach rose from bottom of the table in the second division . Also in the 2007/08 season , Polanski did not have a regular place and was not on the field for 90 minutes in any of his nine appearances. His contract in Mönchengladbach ended on June 30, 2008.
For the 2008/09 season , Polanski moved after 14 years at Borussia for free to Getafe in the Spanish Primera División . He was signed as the successor to Real Madrid playmaker Rubén de la Red . In Getafe he had a regular place in defensive midfield.
For the 2009/10 season , Polanski was initially loaned out by Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 and then, in November 2010, according to an agreed purchase option, signed a firm contract until 2014. He played his first Bundesliga game for the club on October 24, 2009 in the home game against SC Freiburg ; he came on in the 81st minute for Miroslav Karhan . He scored his first Bundesliga goal for Mainz 05 on December 13, 2009 in the home game against VfB Stuttgart . He came on for André Schürrle in the 65th minute and converted a penalty caused by Jens Lehmann's assault on Aristide Bancé in the 90th minute to make the final score 1: 1.
On January 25, 2013 Polanski moved to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . His contract ran until June 30, 2018 and was not renewed. He then ended his active career despite various offers.
National team
Polanski played for the German U-21 national team for the first time on October 7, 2005 when he came on for David Odonkor in the 59th minute in the 4-0 win against Wales . He played 19 missions in which he scored a hit. Polanski took part in the U-21 European Championship in 2006 and in the qualifications for the U-21 European Championship in 2007 and 2009 . The second leg of the playoff round in qualifying for the U-21 European Championship 2009 on October 15, 2008 against France (Germany won that game 1-0) was Polanski's last international match for Germany's U-21s. Polanski was not nominated for the squad for the U-21 European Championship.
On August 10, 2011 Polanski made his debut in the Polish national team in the game against Georgia , which the Poles won 1-0. At the EM 2012 he was in the starting line-up in all three group matches against Greece , Russia and the Czech Republic . The Polish selection was eliminated after the group stage. In May 2014, Polanski announced his retirement from the national team.
Coaching career
After finishing his career as a player, Polanski signed a contract for the second half of the 2018/19 Super League season with Swiss first division club FC St. Gallen in January 2019 . There he was trained under head coach Peter Zeidler as an intern to become an assistant coach, but was not subsequently employed by the club.
In the summer of 2019, the Pole returned to Germany and found a job with his old club Borussia Mönchengladbach. He works there as a "talent trainer" and is responsible for integrating young talents into the professional team. He succeeded Otto Addo, who had switched to Borussia Dortmund .
