Kevin Volland (born July 30, 1992 in Marktoberdorf ) is a German soccer player . The striker has been under contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen since the 2016/17 season .
Career
youth
After Kevin Volland in 1995 when FC Thalhofen had started playing football, he moved in 2005 to the C-youth of FC Memmingen , in the Bavarian League - the then top flight - played. After relegation in 2006, he moved to TSG Thannhausen to continue playing in the top league. In the summer of 2007 he joined the youth training center of TSV 1860 Munich , where he stayed at the youth boarding school. On October 16, 2008, he made his debut in the dress of the DFB , when he played for the German U17 against the Czech U17 selection from the start. He was also on the starting line-up against Russia three days later. More than a year passed before his next appearance in the German U17. In autumn 2009 he was part of the German squad at the World Cup in Nigeria . He was used in the last group game against Honduras, in which he also scored his only goal for the German U17, and in the round of 16, in which the team failed at the eventual winner Switzerland.
At the end of July 2009, Volland played for the German U18 for the first time . At the Milk Cup he played all three games and scored one goal each in the games against the U20s of Northern Ireland, the U19s of the USA and the Bulgarian U20s. Until May 2010 he played five more times for the U19s and scored two goals. In the club he was a regular player for the U19s in the 2009/10 season. He scored seven goals in 23 Bundesliga games. He was twice on the U23 bench in Regionalliga Süd , but was not substituted on.
Beginnings in professional football
In preparation for the 2010/11 season , trainer Reiner Maurer brought him along with the other senior youth Moritz Leitner , Daniel Hofstetter and Markus Ziereis to the pros of TSV 1860. Volland completed the season preparation with the first team and came in twelve of 14 games for use. On August 14, 2010, like Leitner, he made his competitive debut for 1860 when he was substituted on in the DFB Cup game at SC Verl . He then came twice for the U19s and three times for the second representation of the sixties, scoring two goals for the U19s and four for the U23s. He played his first game for the professional team in the 2nd Bundesliga on September 26, 2010 when he was substituted on for a game at FC Augsburg . Six more short assignments followed by the winter break.
In the national team Volland was promoted to U19 in the summer . He made his first appearance on August 18, 2010 against Belgium, and scored his first goal against the Netherlands on September 3. By winter he was used five more times, scoring four goals.
In January 2011 Volland signed a contract with Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim that ran until 2015, but initially stayed in Munich on loan. The loan contract ran until the summer of 2012, with Hoffenheim having the option to get him in the winter of 2011/12. At the game at VfL Osnabrück on January 21, 2011, he was on the starting line-up of TSV 1860 for the first time and also scored his first competitive goal for the club. Volland was always on the starting line-up in the remaining 15 games of the season. He scored five goals in those games and set up four more. After the end of the second division season, he ran again for the U19, who had qualified for the finals of the German championship. He played the two semi-finals against 1. FC Kaiserslautern from the start, in which, however, FCK prevailed. He also played three times in the second half of the season for the German U19s and scored one goal.
Established in 1860
He also started the new season as a regular player. In the first six games he scored four goals and prepared two more. On August 31, 2011, he played for the first time for the German U20 , for whom he also scored the first goal in the new junior national team season. The DFB had already awarded him the bronze Fritz Walter Medal in the U19 age group at the beginning of August . For the games against Bosnia-Herzegovina and San Marino on October 6 and 10, 2011, he was appointed to the German U21 squad for the first time by coach Rainer Adrion , but had to cancel due to an injury. On February 29, 2012, he finally came to his first appearance for the German U21s when he came on in the game against Greece in the final phase.
TSG Hoffenheim did not take advantage of the option to bring Volland over in winter. Volland was the most accurate player in TSV 1860 until the winter break; in 21 competitive games he scored ten goals and prepared six more. At the end of the second division season Volland was at the top of the internal scorer list with 14 goals and relegated his strike partner Benjamin Lauth and right winger Stefan Aigner to second place with eleven goals each. In total, Volland scored 19 goals in 57 league games in 1860 and scored once in three cup games.
Change to Hoffenheim
In the 2012/13 season , Volland finally moved to Kraichgau and was now part of the TSG Hoffenheim squad - a year and a half after the commitment. On November 3, 2012, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in his tenth game by scoring 1-0 in the 3-2 home win for Hoffenheim against FC Schalke 04 . In his first season, Volland established himself as a regular in Hoffenheim. In the 2012/13 season he scored six goals and made twelve assists in the Bundesliga, and eleven goals and nine assists in the 2013/14 season.
On May 24, 2015, he extended his contract term one more time ahead of schedule until 2019, after being associated with several clubs.
On August 22, 2015, he set the record for the fastest goal in the Bundesliga , set by Karim Bellarabi on August 23, 2014, by scoring 1-0 after nine seconds in the game against FC Bayern Munich .
Change to Leverkusen
For the 2016/17 season , Volland moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In his first season he played with Bayer in the Champions League , where the team was eliminated in the round of 16 against Atlético Madrid ; he missed some games due to a red card suspension and muscular problems. In the following season the striker became a regular player and was able to contribute 14 goals and four assists in 35 competitive games. In the 2018/19 season Volland played with Leverkusen in the Europa League , where the intermediate round was reached, and led the team at times as deputy team captain. In addition, he achieved 15 goals and 16 assists. In the Europa League second round first leg against FC Porto (2: 1) on February 20, 2020, the attacker suffered an ankle injury and was out for a long time; on matchday 29 at the end of May 2020 he was back in the matchday squad for the first time.
A national team
On May 8, 2014, national coach Joachim Löw took Volland into the provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He made his international debut in the senior national team on May 13, 2014 in Hamburg in the 0-0 test international match against Poland . When the final German squad was nominated for the World Cup, Volland was not considered.
At the international matches against Gibraltar and against the Spanish team in November 2014, he made further appearances in the DFB team. Due to the absence of Mesut Özil, he wore the number 8 on his back. In the 8-0 win in the World Cup qualifier against San Marino on November 11, 2016, Volland scored his first and so far only international goal.
