Tin Jedvaj (born November 28, 1995 in Zagreb ) is a Croatian football player . The defender has been under contract with German Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen since the 2014/15 season . He is the son of the former soccer player Zdenko Jedvaj .
Career
society
Jedvaj began his career at NK Zadar , where he drew the attention of scouts from Dinamo Zagreb who brought him to the Croatian capital in 2005. After eight years in Dinamo's youth, he moved up to the professional squad in early 2013 and signed a contract that runs until 2020. He has been a regular there since Domagoj Vida left for Dynamo Kiev . At the start of the second half of the season against NK Osijek , he made his debut and convinced as the season progressed. In 2013, he and the team were confirmed as Croatian champions five game days before the end of the season . For the 2013/14 season Jedvaj moved to the Italian first division club AS Roma . He signed a contract that ran until 2016. On January 12, 2014, he made his debut in a 4-0 victory over CFC Genoa . He was regularly in the squad during the season, but only made another appearance on the last match day - again against Genoa - which he played in the starting line-up and over the entire game distance.
During the 2014 summer break, Jedvaj was loaned out to Bayer 04 Leverkusen for two years . He made his competitive debut for Bayer 04 Leverkusen on August 15, 2014 in a 6-0 win in the first round of the DFB Cup against sixth division club SV Alemannia Waldalgesheim . He made his debut in the Bundesliga on August 23, 2014 in a 2-0 win on matchday one at Borussia Dortmund . After 14 league appearances in which he scored two goals, he was signed in January 2015 and given a contract that runs until June 30, 2020. Jedvaj made three appearances in the Champions League , 22 appearances and two goals in the Bundesliga. In the following season Bayer 04 Leverkusen were eliminated from the Champions League after the group stage, but finished third and continued to play in the Europa League . Jedvaj came on three missions there. In the league he only played 15 times due to a long injury period.
On April 15, 2017 Jedvaj saw the yellow-red card in the Bundesliga home game against FC Bayern Munich in the 59th minute after a foul on Thomas Müller and had to accept the third expulsion in his 51 Bundesliga games. At the age of 21 years and 138 days, he became the youngest Bundesliga player to be expelled from the field with this frequency.
His contract with the Werkself runs until 2023. For the 2019/20 season, which has already started , Leverkusen awarded Jedvaj to league rivals FC Augsburg .
National team
Jedvaj went through all youth teams of the Croatian Football Association from the U-15s with the exception of the U-20s . On September 4, 2014, he made his debut for the senior national team in a 2-0 win in a friendly against Cyprus .
Jedvaj was appointed to the Croatian squad for the 2016 European Championship in France . He was only used in the third group game against Spain and played this over the entire season. Croatia was eliminated from the tournament after the round of 16. At the 2018 World Cup in Russia Jedvaj was runner-up with Croatia , but he was only used in the last group game against Iceland . Croatia lost the final to France .
