The 1. HNL 2012/13 was the 22nd season of the highest Croatian football league . The season started on July 21, 2012 and ended on May 26, 2013.
Due to a switch from 16 to 12 clubs, five teams should be relegated to the 2nd HNL at the end of the preseason . On April 13, 2012, the Croatian Football Association announced the result of the first licensing round, with only three clubs meeting the requirements ( Dinamo Zagreb , NK Lokomotiva Zagreb and NK Zagreb ). On May 15, 2012 it was announced that all remaining first division clubs will receive a license and that there is no athletic climber from the 2nd HNL who meets the conditions. This season starts with the 12 best-placed teams from the previous year.
With five games to go, Dinamo Zagreb won the title after a 1-1 draw from Hajduk Split against NK Slaven Koprivnica.

The twelve teams competed against each other in three rounds, so that 33 match days had to be completed. The teams that finished in the first six places after 22 games had an additional six home games, the teams in the lower six places had five home games.
