Jorge Sammir Cruz Campos (born April 23, 1987 in Itabuna , Bahia , Brazil ), player name Sammir , is a Croatian football player of Brazilian origin who is under contract with the Chinese second division team Wuhan Zall .

Career

Dinamo Zagreb

Sammir began his football career at the age of ten in the youth department of the Brazilian first division club Atlético Mineiro . In 2005 he moved to the youth department of Athletico Paranaense . He signed a contract with São Caetano three months before moving to Dinamo Zagreb . However, since the club did not transfer the agreed transfer fee, he moved to the Croatian record champions in November 2006 , but had to wait until spring 2007 to make his league debut. After the dismissal of the coach Josip Kuže , he finally signed a five-year contract with the Croatian series champion, which has meanwhile been extended until mid-2014.

Sammir succeeded at Dinamo Zagreb what other exceptional players before him, such as Niko Kranjčar or Luka Modrić , were denied. After an eleven-year lean period, he led Dinamo Zagreb back into the Champions League as the first playmaker since Robert Prosinečki and was instrumental in it with numerous assists and important goals.

Sammir was named the best player in the Croatian league in 2013 .

After Sammir repeatedly refused to sign an extension of his contract, which expired in summer 2014, he was retired by the then interim coach Zoran Mamić in November 2013 and has not played a game for the club since. The said contract was terminated by mutual agreement at the end of January 2014.

Getafe CF.

On February 4, 2014 Getafe FC officially announced that Sammir had successfully passed the medical check and signed a three-year contract with the Spanish first division club. By the end of the season he had nine games in the Primera División . In February 2015, he terminated his contract in Getafe and moved to Jiangsu Suning in China .

National team

Sammir was a regular in the Brazilian youth national teams until he moved to Croatia . After moving to Europe, he was no longer considered by the Brazilian Football Association (CBF). After Slaven Bilić resigned as team boss of the Croatian national team immediately after the Euro 2012 , his successor Igor Štimac announced at the beginning of his mandate that he would nominate Sammir in the foreseeable future. When he acquired Croatian citizenship in late summer 2012, the way was clear for Sammir's appointment.

On October 12, 2012, he finally made his debut for the Croatian national team in the Group A World Cup qualifier for the 2014 World Cup against Macedonia . The game played in Skopje , Macedonia , ended with a 2-1 away win for Croatia (goals for Croatia: 32nd Ćorluka , 60th Rakitić ). Sammir came on in the 64th minute for Nikica Jelavić . Sammir was also nominated for the 2014 World Cup . He was used in the preliminary round match against Cameroon.
