Vedran Ćorluka (born February 5, 1986 in Derventa , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian football player . He has been under contract with Lokomotiv Moscow since 2012 .
Career
society
At the age of eight, he joined the youth department of the Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb . In 2003 he completed his first professional season. In the meantime, the league competitor Inter Zaprešić loaned him for a year. Back at Dinamo, he became a regular player and won two Croatian champions and one cup winners with his team.
In 2007 he was signed by the Premier League club Manchester City in England . Here he made 35 games in his first season. Shortly before the end of the first exchange period on August 31, 2008, it was sold to Tottenham Hotspur for the equivalent of 13.8 million euros . During the first two seasons, Ćorluka was a regular at Tottenham, but only came to 17 appearances in 2011.
On January 31, 2012, Ćorluka was loaned to Bayer 04 Leverkusen for 500,000 euros until the end of the season, where he made his debut against VfB Stuttgart on February 4, 2012 under coach Robin Dutt . Due to an injury, he only came to seven missions. After the end of the season, Ćorluka left the Bundesliga, as Leverkusen waived a further commitment due to Tottenham's high transfer demand.
On June 27, 2012 he signed the Premjer League club Lokomotiv Moscow under coach Slaven Bilić , who was his coach in the Croatian national team from 2006 to 2012. Ćorluka signed a three-year contract in the Russian capital until June 30, 2015.
National team
After playing through several national teams, Ćorluka made his debut for the senior team in 2006 at the age of 20 in a friendly against Italy (2-0).
During the qualification for the European Championship in 2008 he became one of the most important players in the Croatian team and had a large share in the first place in the qualification before Russia and England .
At the EM 2008 Ćorluka played in all 3 group games against Austria (1-0), Germany (2-1) and Poland (1-0) as well as in the quarter-finals against Turkey (2-4 after penalties). In 2010 the Turkish international Arda Turan described him as the toughest opponent he has ever played against.
Ćorluka also took part in the 2012 European Championship and was used in all 3 group matches against Ireland (3: 1), Italy (1: 1) and Spain (0: 1).
At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Croatian squad and was part of the team in all four tournament games. In the round of 16, the team lost to Portugal after extra time and was eliminated.
After winning the runner-up in the world championship with the national team in Russia in 2018 , Ćorluka resigned after 103 appearances for the A selection in August 2018.
