Career

In the club

As a youth, Krychowiak played for Orzeł Mrzeżyno , Żaki 94 Kołobrzeg , Stal Szczecin and Arka Gdynia . The then 16-year-old moved to the Girondins Bordeaux youth team in the summer of 2006 . There he played a total of four years, in which he was also used in the B team.

At the end of November 2009 he was awarded to the then French third division team Stade Reims . During the winter break, Krychowiak fought for a regular place in the professional squad. He then played for two years in Ligue 2 , in which he played a total of 35 times and scored two goals. Since Krychowiak had been awarded without an option to buy, he returned to Girondins Bordeaux for the 2011/12 season.

On September 17, 2011 he made his debut for Girondins Bordeaux in Ligue 1 . In November 2011, the club loaned him to FC Nantes , who was playing in Ligue 2 at the time . There, too, he became a regular player; he played 21 point games, but scored no goal. For the 2012/13 season he finally moved to Stade Reims, which had just been promoted to the first division. He scored his first goal for Stade in the game on August 25, 2012 against FC Sochaux to make it 1-0. In two seasons he made 70 league games for Stade Reims, in which he scored eight goals.

For the 2014/15 season , Krychowiak moved to Spain for Sevilla FC . He scored his first competitive goal on February 8, 2015 against Getafe FC . With the Spaniards he won the UEFA Europa League twice in a row .

For the 2016/17 season , Krychowiak followed his coach Unai Emery to Ligue 1 at Paris Saint-Germain . He received a five-year contract dated June 30, 2021 with the French champions. There, however, he only made 11 league appearances (7 times from the start).

After he was mostly just a reservist in his first season and was no longer considered by coach Unai Emery at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, Krychowiak moved to West Bromwich Albion on loan to the Premier League at the end of August 2018 until the end of the season . There he came to 27 Premier League appearances (20 times from the start).

For the 2018/19 season, Krychowiak switched to the Russian first division club Lokomotiv Moscow for a year on loan . There he came to 27 league appearances always in the starting line-up, in which he scored 2 goals. For the season 2019/20 Lokomotiv Moscow acquired finally the transfer rights to Krychowiak.

In the national team

Grzegorz Krychowiak played for the Polish association since the U-20s . He came on a total of six missions and in 2007 scored a goal at the U-20 World Cup against Brazil.

On December 14, 2008, he made his debut for Poland against Serbia at the age of 18, coming on in the 47th minute. In the following years he continued to play in the junior teams. Only after the European Championship in 2012 did the then Polish coach Franciszek Smuda bring him back to the A-team. In the World Cup qualification, he developed into a core force in the defensive midfield. In qualifying for the 2016 European Football Championship in France, he played all 10 games over the full playing time. With the shirt number 10 he was in Poland's EM squad , he was part of the regular formation at all games and was on the pitch for the full playing time. In the round of 16 against Switzerland he converted the fifth and decisive penalty in the final penalty shoot-out to advance. In the quarter-finals, the team then lost the penalty shoot-out against Portugal.

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he was part of the Polish squad . He was used in all group matches and scored one of only two goals for the Polish team. He retired with the team after the group stage.
