The Croatian U-21 national soccer team is a selection team of Croatian soccer players .
It is subject to Hrvatski nogometni savez (HNS) and represents it internationally on the U-21 level , in friendly matches against the national teams of other national associations, but also at the European Championships of the continental federation UEFA and the Football World Cup of FIFA .
Eligible to play are players who have not yet reached the age of 21 and who are Croatian citizens . In tournaments, the age at the first qualifying game or on January 1st of the year specified in the tournament rules is decisive.
history
After the Croatian Football Association (HNS) was recognized by UEFA in June 1993, Croatia took part in a qualification for an U-21 tournament for the first time in 1994. The team ended up in 4th place in a group with Ukraine , Italy , Estonia , Slovenia and Lithuania and consequently did not qualify for the European Championship in 1996 .
They were also unable to qualify for the 1998 European Championship , but two years later the team qualified for the 2000 European Championship . In a group with the Netherlands , Spain and the Czech Republic , Croatia landed on a disappointing 4th place. In 2004 the team achieved their last qualification for an EM . Here, too, they landed on 4th place.
