Eduardo Alves da Silva (born February 25, 1983 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ), better known as Eduardo , is a Croatian football player with Brazilian roots. Most recently he was under contract with the Polish club Legia Warsaw .

Career

societies

In 1998 Eduardo moved from the Brazilian club CBF Nova Kennedy to the youth team at Dinamo Zagreb . From 1999 to 2000 he spent two seasons with Bangu AC in Rio de Janeiro . In 2000 he returned to the youth of Dinamo Zagreb. In the 2001/02 season "Dudu" made the breakthrough and joined the Dinamo professional squad.

From 2002 to 2003 Eduardo was loaned out again, this time to Inter Zaprešić . In 2003 he returned to the Modri , where he has been a regular since then. After the retirement of Zoran Mamić in March 2007, Eduardo became captain of Dinamo.

In July 2007 he moved to Arsenal FC . According to some magazines, the transfer fee was 24 million euros, with other news agencies such as B. the BBC, spoke of a transfer fee of only eleven million euros. Since both clubs did not provide any official information, this question could not be clarified clearly.

On February 23, 2008 Eduardo broke his left tibia and fibula in the Premier League game at Birmingham City by a foul by Martin Taylor . He was out for the rest of the season and the 2008 European Championship . On December 16, 2008 Eduardo da Silva made his comeback in the reserve team against Portsmouth, but suffered again a minor injury. On February 16, 2009 Eduardo contributed two goals to a 4-0 home win on his comeback for Arsenal's first team in the FA Cup against Cardiff City .

During the summer break of 2010 Eduardo moved to Shakhtar Donetsk .

For the 2014/15 season he moved to the Brazilian first division club Flamengo Rio de Janeiro .

National team

In 2002 he received Croatian citizenship. Two years later he made his debut for the Croatian U-21 national team. He played his first game for the national team in 2004 in a friendly against Ireland. Despite his good performance in the Croatian league, he was not nominated for the 2006 World Cup . He made his breakthrough in the senior national team shortly after the World Cup and later became one of the most important players in Croatia's successful qualification for the final round of the European Football Championship in 2008 . With ten goals in twelve games, he was behind the Northern Irishman David Healy (13 goals) the second top scorer in the European Championship qualification. After his serious injury on February 23, 2008, he returned to the starting line-up of the national team on April 1, 2009 in the 2010 World Cup qualifier for South Africa against Andorra.

After the 2014 World Cup , where the native Brazilian only played once as a substitute, Eduardo ended his career in the Croatian national team at the age of just 31. In the sparse justification, he stated disadvantages and hostility from the team's environment.

Records

In the 2006/07 season Eduardo scored 34 goals in 33 league games for Dinamo Zagreb.
