Zoran Mamić (born September 30, 1971 in Bjelovar ) is a former Croatian football player . At the soccer world championship in 1998 he was in the squad of the Croatian national soccer team . He was the sporting director and between October 2013 and June 2016 he was also the coach of Dinamo Zagreb . Since January 2017 he has been coaching the Al Ain Club from the United Arab Emirates .
Player career
In Croatia he played for Dinamo Zagreb . He gained international experience during his time in Germany in the first and second Bundesliga. First he played for VfL Bochum , then for Bayer 04 Leverkusen . After a second guest appearance at VfL Bochum, Mamic moved to the second Bundesliga for SpVgg Greuther Fürth in 2001 after playing 82 Bundesliga games . Two years in Fürth followed one season each with LR Ahlen and Eintracht Trier ; Mamic played a total of 99 games in the second division. He ended his career in March 2007 with Dinamo Zagreb.
Coaching career
After his active career, he became sports director at Dinamo Zagreb, where his brother Zdravko Mamić is president. In 2013, Zoran Mamić also became the coach of Dinamo and became Croatian champions in 2014 and 2015. In the summer of 2015, Zoran and Zdravko Mamić were arrested by the Croatian police and taken into custody. They were accused of having enriched themselves by selling players and evading taxes. In June 2018, Mamić, an accomplice of his brother Zdravko Mamic, was sentenced to a long prison term for tax evasion on player transfers.
