history

Although Czechoslovakia was dissolved on January 1, 1993, their U-21s played under the Czechoslovak flag until the end of the U-21 European Football Championship in 1994 . Only then did the two new countries Slovakia and the Czech Republic form their own U-21 national teams. The only participation in the U-21 European Championships was in 2000, when Slovakia hosted the tournament. In the group matches, Slovakia prevailed against strong footballing nations such as Portugal, Romania and Hungary. The team was very successful in the group games in the tournament, both Turkey and England were beaten and there was a draw with Italy. Strong Italy had the better goal difference in the end and Slovakia only played for third place. The game against Spain was lost, Slovakia took fourth place in the tournament and secured participation in the 2000 Summer Olympics .
