history

The Azerbaijani U-21 national football team first took part in the qualification for a U-21 European football championship in 1998 . So far, however, the team has never qualified for a European finals. In 52 qualifying games so far, the Azerbaijan U21s have just three wins. The first victory could be retracted on October 9, 1998 with a 2-1 against Hungary . The two other victories followed on October 6, 2000 in Macedonia 2-1, which is also the team's only away win so far, and on September 4, 2001 at home with a 1-0 again against the Macedonians. The Azerbaijani selection, however, often suffered narrow, but sometimes high defeats against the strongest teams on the European continent. Azerbaijan lost 5-0 to Sweden in their home game on September 1, 2000 . The Azerbaijanis suffered their first significant defeat in Portugal on March 25, 1999 , when the team lost 5-0.
