Nikica Jelavić (born August 27, 1985 in Čapljina , SR Bosnia and Herzegovina , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian football player . He has been under contract with the Chinese first division club Guizhou Hengfeng since February 2017 .
Career
society
Jelavić began his career in GOŠK Gabela's youth team before joining Hajduk Split's U-19 team in 2002 at the age of 17 for an estimated transfer fee of 130,000 euros . In 2004 he made his breakthrough in the fighting team and scored 15 goals in 31 league appearances. Appearances as a regular player were denied him; in most games he was substituted on as a so-called joker in the last minutes of the game.
In the 2007/08 season he played 28 games for SV Zulte Waregem before moving to the reigning Austrian champions SK Rapid Wien in June 2008 on loan . Jelavić played 34 games as a joker because he couldn't get past the two Austrian strikers Stefan Maierhofer and Erwin Hoffer . In 2009 Jelavić signed with Rapid for two years.
On August 20, 2009, Jelavic scored the third fastest European cap with the goal scored after 16 seconds to make it 1-0 in the first leg against Aston Villa in Vienna ; on August 27, 2009 he scored the important away goal for Rapid in the 76th minute of the second leg. The game ended 2-1 for Aston Villa, but Rapid advanced through the away goals rule. Rapid became the first Austrian team to eliminate an English club in a European competition.
On August 19, 2010, Jelavić declared a few hours before the Europa League playoff against Aston Villa that he no longer wanted to play for SK Rapid Vienna and switched to the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland with immediate effect . According to media reports, the transfer fee was EUR 4.9 million. Due to the subsequent promotion of the Viennese into the group stage of the Europa League, he could no longer be used in the UEFA Champions League this season .
On January 31, 2012 he was signed by Everton FC . He signed a four and a half year contract and made his debut in the second half in a 1-1 away game against Wigan Athletic . On March 10, 2012 Jelavić made his starting XI debut and scored the winning goal against Tottenham Hotspur . He scored nine goals in 13 games for which he was named Footballer of the Month .
On January 15, 2014, Jelavić moved to Hull City , where he signed a contract until June 30, 2017.
In February 2016, he left West Ham prematurely after being used in only 13 league games. For a transfer fee of £ 2 million, he moved to Beijing Renhe in China .
National team
Jelavić made his debut for the Croatian national team against Qatar on October 8, 2009 in Rijeka , scoring the 3-2 winning goal in the 90th minute.
Jelavić was also part of the Croatian national team during the European Football Championship 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. He scored the opening goal to make it 2-1 in the first group game against Ireland . In the other group matches against Italy and Spain Jelavić was also used, but could not prevent the unfortunate preliminary round. He was also nominated for the 2014 World Cup . There Jelavic was used in two preliminary round matches.
On October 11, 2014, Jelavic surprisingly resigned from the Croatian national team after spending 90 minutes on the bench in a qualifying match for the 2016 European Football Championship against Bulgaria.
