Regular season
The 16 clubs initially played the regular season in a double round. The final table served as the basis for qualifying for various placement rounds.
The six best-placed clubs reached the championship round, the teams in places seven to fourteen played for a possible international starting place. The last two teams played in the relegation. It should be noted that in the championship round half of the number of points achieved from the 30 games in the preliminary round was carried over, so that the other matches could only cause minor changes depending on the table situation.

Play-offs
The teams that reached places seven to fourteen in the regular season qualified for the play-offs. The eight participating clubs were divided into two groups of four teams each according to their placements (group A: 7, 9, 12, 14 - group B: 8, 10, 11, 13), in each of which a double round was played.

Relegation
The last and penultimate place of the regular season denied the relegation. Four games were played between the two teams (since the winner was already determined after four games, the fifth game was omitted). The penultimate of the regular season ( Beerschot AC ) received a bonus of three points and was allowed to play one more home game than the last Cercle Bruges .
Cercle Bruges won three of the first four games and was therefore unassailable as the relegation winner despite the 3 bonus points for Beerschot AC . Bruges is now playing an additional relegation round with three teams from the 2nd division, in which only the winner qualifies for the Pro League . The loser of the relegation Beerschot AC also received no license for the following season and was relegated directly to the third division .
