Matías Ezequiel Suárez [ maˈtijas ˈswaɾes ] (born May 9, 1988 in Córdoba ) is an Argentine football player . He currently plays as a forward for River Plate .

Career

Matías Suárez began his professional football career with CA Belgrano in his hometown of Córdoba . He played there for three years and left the club after missing the promotion from the second division in 2008. Suárez moved to Belgium to the then reigning cup winners RSC Anderlecht , where he signed a five-year contract until 2013. In the beginning he played rarely there and scored his first and only goal in eleven missions against Beerschot AC . At the beginning of the following season he met twice in the Champions League qualification against Olympique Lyon and yet Anderlecht was eliminated. Subsequently, Suárez made more appearances than before and became Belgian champions for the first time with Anderlecht in the 2009/10 season . This championship could not be defended in the next year and the team also failed again - this time at FK Partizan Belgrade - in the Champions League qualification . Suárez still shows excellent performances and was therefore awarded the Gouden Schoen for the best player in the Belgian league . He confirmed these achievements the next year and won the championship with Anderlecht even without striker Romelu Lukaku . Furthermore, he was named professional footballer of the year in Belgium at the end of the season and thus represents the successor to Ivan Perišić . In April 2013, Suárez announced that he would play for the Belgian national football team .

National team

He made his debut for the Argentine national team on March 22nd in the friendly against Venezuele in Madrid.
