Childhood and family

Enzo is the eldest son of the former French international and coach Zinédine Zidane and the French-born Spanish Véronique Fernández. He was born in Bordeaux on March 24, 1995 when his father was playing for Girondins Bordeaux at the time. It was named after the Uruguayan soccer star Enzo Francescoli . Enzo came to Spain in 2001 at the age of six when his father moved to Real Madrid . Since 2006 he has also had Spanish citizenship . Enzo has three younger brothers named Luca (* 1998), Theo (* 2002) and Elyaz (* 2005), all of whom are also active at Real Madrid. At the beginning of his career, Enzo was named Fernández on his jersey, but now only uses his first name Enzo .

Career

In the club

Beginnings

Enzo started his career in the youth department of the Italian club Juventus Turin in 1999 when his father Zinédine Zidane was playing in the first team at the time. After his father moved to Real Madrid in Spain in 2001 , Enzo continued his career in youth clubs there before moving to Real Madrid's youth department in 2004. In September 2011, Enzo trained for the first time under José Mourinho with the first team.

After Enzo had gone through the youth department and won the A youth championship in his last youth year, he first moved up to the third men's team in the 2014/15 season , which played in the fourth-class Tercera Division (group 7). That same season Enzo debuted in the trained by his father, the second team in the third-tier Segunda División B . After the third team was disbanded for the 2015/16 season, he moved up firmly to the second team and became vice-captain.

Debut for Real Madrid

Enzo completed the preparation for the 2016/17 season - like his brother Luca - with the first team, which is now being trained by her father. Both were nominated for the UEFA Super Cup , but were not used in the 3-2 win after extra time against FC Sevilla . On November 30, 2016, Enzo made his debut under his father in the first team when he was substituted on for Isco in the second half in the 6-1 win against third division cultural Leonesa in the second half of the second leg of the sixteenth-finals of the Copa del Rey and in the 63rd minute of the game meanwhile 4: 1 scored. Until the end of the season, Enzo continued to play in the second team. As a member of the Champions League squad, he won the Champions League for the first time .

Between Spain and Switzerland

For the 2017/18 season , Enzo moved to Deportivo Alavés . He received a contract that runs until June 30, 2020. On August 26, 2017, Enzo made his debut in the Primera División under coach Luis Zubeldía when he came on for Mubarak Wakaso in the 77th minute of the 2-0 home defeat against FC Barcelona on Matchday 2 . By the turn of the year, Enzo came under the successors Zubeldías, Gianni De Biasi and Abelardo Fernández , only to another league appearance and two appearances in the Copa del Rey .

On January 1, 2018, Enzo moved to the Swiss first division club FC Lausanne-Sport , with whom he signed a contract until June 30, 2020. By the end of the 2017/18 season , he was used in 16 league games in which he scored two goals, and his team was relegated to the Challenge League .

For the 2018/19 season , Enzo returned to Spain and joined the second division promoted Rayo Majadahonda on loan . There he was used in 33 of 42 league games (26 times in the starting XI) and went straight back to the Segunda División B with the club .

Via Portugal to Almería

After the loan, Enzo did not return to Lausanne and agreed with the club to terminate his contract. He joined the Portuguese first division club Desportivo Aves for the 2019/20 season , with whom he signed a contract that runs until June 30, 2021. After 10 appearances (5 times from the start) in the Primeira Liga, in which he scored 2 goals, Enzo returned to the Spanish second division at the end of January 2020 shortly before the end of the transfer window and joined the UD Almería on loan for a year and a half on.

In the national team

Since Enzo has not yet played an A international match and is a French and Spanish national, he would be eligible to play for these two countries. His paternal grandparents also come from Algeria .

In February 2014, Enzo decided to accrue France for his country of birth - and his father's country.
