Luca Zinedine Zidane Fernández (born May 13, 1998 in Marseille ), mostly known as Luca Zidane (more rarely Luca Fernández ), is a French - Spanish soccer goalkeeper who has been under contract with Racing Santander as a loan player from Real Madrid since the beginning of July 2019 .

Zidane was born in Marseille to Zinédine Zidane and his wife, Veronique Fernández, of Spanish descent, with whom he has been married since 1994. His older brother Enzo (* 1995) is just as much a soccer player as his two younger brothers Theo (* 2002) and Elyaz (* 2005).

In the club

Beginnings at Real Madrid

Zidane started playing football in Real Madrid's youth in 2004 when his father was under contract there. At Real Madrid, he played in all youth teams and in the 2016/17 season, in addition to appearances in the A youth team, he made eight appearances in the second team in the third-class Segunda División B in the UEFA Youth League .

For the 2017/18 season, Zidane moved up to the professional squad that was coached by his father. There he was third goalkeeper behind Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla . At the beginning of the season, he won the UEFA Super Cup with the team without any effort . On the last day of the match he made his debut in a 2-2 draw against Villarreal in the Primera División . He also won the Champions League without a commitment . In addition, he came to 13 missions in the second team.

After signing Thibaut Courtois , Zidane was the fourth goalkeeper for the first team at the start of the 2018/19 season and was still in the second team's squad. After Kiko Casilla left the club in January, he was number three again. After he was not used under the new coaches Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari , he was used for the second time in the Primera División at the end of March by his father, who had taken over the team again in the same month. It was his only use in the professional team. For the second team, Zidane came to 30 third division appearances.

Racing Santander

For the 2019/20 season, Zidane switched to the second-rate Segunda División for the newly promoted Racing Santander for a year on loan . There he ousted the captain and previous goalkeeper Iván Crespo under the head coach Iván Ania and kept this position under Ania's successors Cristóbal Parralo and José Luis Oltra .

In the national team

Zidane played three times for the French U16 national team from May to June 2014 . From September 2014 to May 2015 he played 14 times in the U17 team . With her he took part in the 2015 U17 European Championship . When winning the title, Zidane was used in all six games. He then took part with the team in the U17 World Cup in 2015 , where he was used three times and was eliminated with the team in the round of 16.
