The final round of the 33rd U-17 European Football Championship took place in Bulgaria in May 2015 . It was the first final round of a UEFA competition in Bulgaria and the first in which - as last in 2002 - 16 teams took part. It also served as a qualifier for the 2015 U-17 World Cup in Chile . All UEFA member associations applied to participate. Bulgaria was selected alongside the two hosts for 2014 and 2016 at the UEFA Executive Committee meeting on March 20, 2012 in Istanbul .
qualification
The first qualifying round, in which all applicants except host Bulgaria took part, was drawn on November 28, 2013. Germany received a bye for the elite round in advance. The remaining 52 teams played in 13 groups of four teams each, the group first and second as well as the five best group third qualified for the elite round. Austria met in Group 9 in Albania from 8 to 13 October 2014 on Norway, San Marino and Albania and Switzerland met in Group 10 from 23 to 28 October 2014 in Belgium Belgium, Azerbaijan and Bosnia and Herzegovina, could but don't qualify.
The elite round, in which the 15 other finalists were determined, took place in March 2015. Germany prevailed in Group 8 with two wins (3-0 against Slovakia and 3-0 against Ukraine) and one draw (2-2 against Italy) as first in the table. Austria was also able to qualify for the finals with the same record (against Russia, Wales and Iceland).
Mode of the final tournament
The 16 qualified teams were divided into four groups of four teams each in an open draw. Within the groups, each team played each other once. The group winners and runners-up reached the quarter-finals. Their winners reached the semi-finals and the semi-final winners reached the final; Third place was not played out. The regular playing time was 40 minutes twice. From the quarter-finals onwards, after regular time there was no extra time after a tie, but a penalty shoot-out immediately afterwards .
