1984 European Under-16 Football Championship

The 2nd U-16 European Football Championship was held in the Federal Republic of Germany from May 3rd to 5th, 1984 . The winner was the host, who reached the final for the second time in a row, with a 2-0 victory over the Soviet Union . The GDR did not qualify for the final round as defending champion Italy. All final round matches took place in Baden-Württemberg .

For the last time the tournament was held over a period of two years. The tournament has been held annually since then.

qualification

Football teams from 27 European countries took part in the qualification, some of which were divided into a total of 8 groups according to geographical criteria. There were 4 groups with four participants, 3 groups with three participants and another group with only 2 participants. All eight group winners made it to the intermediate round, the winners, after the first and second leg, reached the final round.

Intermediate round

The eight group winners were divided into four quarter-finals by lot. The four winners, after two legs, qualified for the finals.
