The final round of the 28th U-19 European Championship took place in Estonia from July 3 to July 15, 2012 . It also served as a qualifier for the 2013 U-20 World Cup in Turkey . The best six teams qualify for the World Cup.
qualification
The qualification for the tournament took place in two stages. The first qualifying round was followed by a second round, called the elite round. Estonia was directly qualified to host. England, France and Spain were all set for the elite round. All other teams had to go through the full qualification.
First qualifying round
The first qualifying round took place from September 21, 2011 to November 15, 2011. Twelve groups with four teams each played the placements among themselves in tournament mode, i.e. H. each team only played once against the other three. Each group played its six group matches within a few days, with one of the participating countries acting as the host. The group winners and second as well as the best third in the group qualified for the elite round.
The German team played in group 7. The games were played in Northern Ireland against the national team there as well as against Belarus and Montenegro. After clear victories against Northern Ireland (5: 1) and Montenegro (2: 0), a deficit of 0: 3 at halftime was made up to 3: 3 against Belarus. This was enough for group victory.
The Austrian team hosted Group 12. After a 3-0 win against Malta, they only drew 0-0 against Albania and Denmark. She reached second place behind group winners Denmark, which was enough for a place in the elite round.
The Swiss team played in Group 6, which played their games in Macedonia. In addition to the team there, Ukraine and Kazakhstan continued to take part. They defeated Macedonia 3-0 and also achieved a clear 2-0 victory against Kazakhstan. Ukraine played against these two opponents with identical results. The game between Switzerland and Ukraine ended 1-1, which meant that both teams achieved 7 points and a goal balance of +5 goals. The group win was determined by penalty shoot-out, which Ukraine won 5-3. Switzerland was second in the group but also qualified for the elite round.
Elite round
The elite round was held in groups of four in a similar manner at the end of May 2012, with one team again hosting. The seven group winners qualified for participation in the final round.
The German team played in Group 3 in Serbia. A 2: 2 against the hosts, a 1: 1 against Romania and a 3: 0 against Hungary were only enough for second place. Serbia qualified for the finals.
Austria played in Group 5 in Croatia. After a 2-2 draw against the hosts and a 2-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina, the team from Georgia lost 2-1 in the last group game, making them third in the group.
The Swiss team lost 3-0 to Montenegro in Group 2, which played in England. A 2-0 win against Slovenia in the second group match kept the chances of winning the group, but after a 0-1 defeat against England the team only reached third place.
Attendees
28 U-19 national teams took part in the elite round. Host Estonia was the only team to automatically qualify for the finals. So there were seven more places to be awarded to the seven group winners of the elite round. The following teams were able to qualify (qualification path in brackets):
Venues
The finals were played in three cities, in Haapsalu ( Haapsalu staadion ), Rakvere ( Rakvere staadion ), and in the state capital Tallinn ( Lilleküla staadion and Kadrioru staadion ).
Preliminary round
The preliminary round was held in two groups with four teams each. The two group winners and runners-up qualified for the semifinals. In the event of a tie, first the direct comparison and then the goal difference decided the ranking. The groups were drawn on June 6, 2012 in Tallinn. The first three teams in each group are qualified for the 2013 U-20 World Cup.
