Career

In the club

Gerard Deulofeu played in the youth team of FC Barcelona from 2003. In his first year at the club he won the league title as one of the key players in the Benjamin B age category . Initially used as a playmaker, he has played mostly on the left wing since the A-youth, on which he impresses with his speed and technical skills. With the club's B-youth, Deulofeu won the Catalan league in 2010 and was by far the youngest player on his team. He then signed a pre-professional contract with FC Barcelona.

In the 2010/11 season Deulofeu was part of the A-youth squad of FC Barcelona. With this he finished the División de Honor Juvenil (Group 3) as first in the table and had contributed as top scorer with his 15 goals. This qualified his team for the Copa de Campeones , in which his team defeated Real Madrid 3-1 in the final. In the same season he played his first game for the B team: In the 4-1 win over FC Córdoba , he came on for Edu Oriol in the 76th minute . In April 2011, the 17-year-old received his first appointment to the professional squad for the game against Real Sociedad San Sebastián on matchday 34.

For the 2011/12 season Deulofeu was permanently included in the B-team of FC Barcelona. At the end of the season he had 34 appearances and nine goals. He was thus the most dangerous goal-scoring player on his team. On October 29, 2011 he made his debut in the Primera División; he came on as a substitute for David Villa in the 63rd minute of the game against RCD Mallorca .

Before the 2013/14 season moved Deulofeu for a year on loan in the Premier League for Everton . He returned to Barcelona for the 2014/15 season , but was loaned to Sevilla FC at the end of preparation until the end of the season. There he came to 17 appearances in the Primera División and won the Europa League .

For the 2015/16 season Deulofeu returned to the Premier League for Everton FC. This time he was firmly committed and received a three-year contract.

On January 23, 2017, he moved to AC Milan in Serie A on loan until the end of the 2016/17 season .

For the 2017/18 season Deulofeu returned to his youth club FC Barcelona , which used a buyback option.

On 29 January 2018, the FC Barcelona, Deulofeu announced until the end season 2017/18 at the Watford FC in the Premier League to give. By the end of the season he was used in seven league games in which he scored a goal. For the 2018/19 season , Watford FC acquired the transfer rights to Deulofeu for a transfer fee of 13 million euros, which can increase by four million euros.

National team

In 2010 he took part in the European Championship in Liechtenstein with the Spanish U-17 . In the last group game against Portugal, he became the man of the day with two goals to make it 2-0. As a winger , he was used in the remaining games and also scored in the final against England. However, he was denied winning the European Championship because England turned the game 2-1. In qualifying for the U-17 European Championship 2011 in Serbia , he played six games and scored two goals. The Spanish selection only finished second behind England in the final group stage and did not qualify for the finals.

With the U-19 selection, he won the European Championships in Romania in 2011 . Deulofeu was used in all five games and scored the opening goal in the semifinals in a 5-0 win over Ireland. A year later he repeated his triumph at the U-19 European Championship in Estonia , played again in all five games and became player of the game in the semi-final against France. In this encounter, he had initially scored two goals in regular time and converted the last and decisive penalty in the penalty shoot-out. He was then named the best player of the tournament.

On May 30, 2014 Deulofeu made his debut in the Spanish senior team in the game against the Bolivian selection (2-0); he was substituted on in the 78th minute.

At the U-21 European Championship 2017 in Poland , Deulofeu reached the final with the Spanish selection , which was lost to Germany . During the tournament he was the captain in four out of five games, with one goal and two assists.
