Nathaniel Nyakie Chalobah (born December 12, 1994 in Freetown ) is an English football player born in Sierra Leone who has been under contract with Watford FC since 2017 .
His younger brother Trevoh Chalobah is also active as a football player.
Career
Chalobah started playing football at Fulham FC when he was ten . In 2005 he moved to the youth academy of Chelsea FC , where he received his first professional contract in January 2012. On September 22, 2010 Chalobah sat in a 3-4 defeat of Chelsea FC against Newcastle United at the age of 15 for the first time on the bench in a game of the first team, but without being substituted on.
In the 2010/11 season Chalobah came for the first time in the Premier Reserve League , in which he scored two goals in 14 missions, used. In the 2011/12 season he came on 15 missions in which he scored four goals. In the 2011/12 season he was also part of the Champions League squad that won the title.
On August 31, 2012 Chalobah moved - after he had previously come to a use for the U-21 in the newly created U-21 Premier League - until January 2, 2013 on loan in the second-rate Football League Championship at Watford FC . A good two weeks later Chalobah made his competitive debut in a 0-1 home defeat of his new club against Brighton & Hove Albion . In January 2013, the loan business was extended until the end of the season. In the course of the season Chalobah established himself as a regular player (38 league games / five goals) and reached third place in the table with his team. After a first-round success over Leicester City , Watford lost the play-off final 1-0 to Crystal Palace .
In the summer of 2013 Chalobah returned to Chelsea and received a new contract dated June 30, 2018. After he was once used in the U-21, he was loaned to the Football League Championship at Nottingham Forest until January 15, 2014 . After twelve missions in which he scored two goals, Chalobah was loaned to Middlesbrough FC on January 16, 2014 until the end of the 2013/14 season within the league . There he came to 19 league appearances in which he scored a goal.
In the summer of 2014 Chalobah first returned to Chelsea and was used once in the U-21. On September 1, 2014, he was loaned to the league rivals Burnley FC until January 2, 2015 . For Burnley FC he came to four Premier League appearances without scoring his own. On January 22, 2014 Chalobah was loaned to Reading FC until the end of the 2014/15 season in the Football League Championship , for which he scored a goal in 15 games.
In the summer of 2015 Chalobah returned to Chelsea, but was not in the first team squad. On September 1, 2015, he moved to the Italian Serie A at SSC Napoli until the end of the 2015/16 season . However, there he could not prevail.
For the 2016/17 season Chalobah returned to Chelsea and was added to the first team squad by coach Antonio Conte .
English national team
In May 2010, 15-year-old Nathaniel Chalobah won the title with England in the 2010 European Under-17 Football Championship . On November 13, 2012, he made his debut in the English U-21 national team at the age of 17 and took part in the U-21 European Football Championship in Israel in 2013 with the English selection . Chalobah played all three group games , but retired with his team without points after the preliminary round. In October 2018 Chalobah made his debut as part of the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League in a 3-2 away win against Spain in the English national team , after having been in the squad for the first time in August 2017.

Private
Nathaniel Chalobah's younger brother Trevoh is also a professional soccer player and, like him, comes from the youth department of Chelsea FC. He has been on loan with Huddersfield Town since summer 2019 .
