William James "Will" Hughes (born April 17, 1995 in Weybridge ) is an English football player who has been under contract with the first division club Watford since 2017 .

Career

Derby County

Will Hughes, who was only engaged in the summer of 2011 for the youth academy of Derby County , made his debut on November 5, 2011 at the age of only 16 for the English second division side in a 2-3 away defeat at Peterborough United . By the end of the Football League Championship 2011/12 , he played two more league games and ended the season with his team as twelfth in the table. In the course of the 2012/13 season, the now 17-year-old Hughes established himself as a regular under coach Nigel Clough . On September 1, 2012 he scored his first goal for Derby in a 5-1 home win over Watford FC and signed a new contract a month later until summer 2015.

Watford FC

On June 24, 2017, Hughes moved to the first division club Watford for a transfer fee of £ 8 million .

English national team

Will Hughes, who was previously used in the England U-17 national team, made his debut in the England U-21 national team on November 13, 2012 . In the 2-0 home win in the friendly against Northern Ireland, the 17-year-old came on for Josh McEachran in the 65th minute , making him the second youngest debutant in the U-21 team after Theo Walcott .
