He is the younger brother of Nathaniel Chalobah , who is also active as a football player.

Beginnings

Chalobah was born in the Sierra Leonean capital Freetown and came to England with his family in his earliest childhood . There he started playing football for Chelsea in 2007 . In the Blues he played in various junior selections and was used for the first time in the U23 team in the 2015/16 season. With the U19 he won the FA Youth Cup and the UEFA Youth League this season .

With the U18 he won the U18 championship and again the FA Youth Cup in the 2016/17 season, but was also used in the Premier League 2 for the U23. In the 2017/18 season he continued to play for both the U18 and U23 teams.

Under Antonio Conte , the coach of the first team, he sat on the bench for the first time on March 4, 2018 in the 0-1 away defeat in the Premier League game. Also in the FA Cup , he was twice in the matchday squad and won this competition with Chelsea, but without having stood there for a single minute.

Loan to Ipswich Town

For the 2018/19 season he switched to second division club Ipswich Town on loan for a year , where he was to gain experience in English adult football for the first time. He made his debut on August 4, 2018 (1st matchday) in a 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers . Already two weeks later on the third matchday, Chalobah scored for the first time for the Tractor Boys in a 1-1 draw in their home game against Aston Villa . In the first win of the season against Swansea City on October 6th (matchday 12), he scored the decisive 3-2 winning goal in the 84th minute of the game.

Ipswich came into relegation worries early this season, which could not be overcome until the end of the season. With only five wins in 46 league games they reached a total of 31 points and had to accept relegation to EFL League One as bottom of the table . Chalobah was one of the few players on the team who could perform well. He was used in 43 league games in which he scored two goals. At the end of the season he returned to Chelsea.

Loan to Huddersfield Town

On August 8, 2019, Chalobah signed a new three-year contract at Stamford Bridge and was loaned to the Premier League relegated Huddersfield Town for the entire 2019/20 season on the same day . Five days later he made his debut in the surprising 1-0 home defeat to Lincoln City in the EFL Cup in the jersey of the Terriers . Another three days later (3rd matchday) he played his first game in the championship in the 1: 2 home defeat against Fulham FC . On August 21, he scored his first goal of the season in a 2-1 away defeat by Cardiff City . In total, he completed 36 league games this season, in which he scored one goal and one assist.

On August 18, 2020, Chalobah signed a new contract with Chelsea, which on the same day sent him on for a year on loan to the French Ligue 1 promoted team.

National team

Chalobah completed two international matches for the England U16 national team in November 2014 and April 2015 , in which he led the team onto the pitch as captain.

From August 2015 he was in action for the U17 . He was the captain of his country from the start and then took part with England in the U17 European Championship 2016 in Azerbaijan in May 2016 . There they failed in the quarter-finals to Spain . Then his work in the U17 team came to an end after 15 international appearances and one goal.

In September 2016 he played his first games for the U19 . On November 15, he scored his first and only goal in this age group in a 2-0 away win against Greece in qualifying for the 2017 U19 European Championship . In July 2017, he took part in the final round in Georgia with England . After playing the full distance in the first two group games, he injured his ankle in the fifth minute of the game against Germany and was out for the remainder of the tournament. England won the competition in his absence with a 2-1 win over Portugal in the final .

In October 2017 he took over the captain's loop of the U19 team and led them through a successful qualification to the finals of the U19 European Championship 2018 in Finland . There he was the captain in all four games and retired with the Three Lions with a 3-0 defeat against Norway surprisingly early from the tournament. Chalobah's time in the U19 ended after 25 games because he had exceeded the minimum age.

From September 2018 to June 2019 he played six times for the U20 and scored once in these games.

On September 6, 2019, he made his debut for the U21 team in a 3-2 away win against Turkey in qualifying for the U21 European Championship 2021 .
