Jon Gorenc Stankovič (born January 14, 1996 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian football player . He has been under contract with SK Sturm Graz since 2020 .

Career

society

Gorenc Stankovič started his career at NK Domžale . In April 2013 he made his debut for the pros from Domžale in the 1st SNL when he was in the starting line-up against FC Koper on matchday 31 of the 2012/13 season and was replaced by Slobodan Vuk in the 77th minute . On his second appearance on the following day, he promptly led his team onto the field as captain for the first time. By the end of the season he made six appearances in the top Slovenian league.

After qualifying for the European Cup with Domžale, he completed his first two games at international club level in July 2013 in the first round of qualifying for the UEFA Europa League against Astra Giurgiu , both of which were lost. In the 2013/14 season he made a total of twelve appearances in the 1st SNL.

For the 2014/15 season he moved to Germany to Borussia Dortmund . At BVB, he first played for the third-class second team, and in his first season he also played for the U-19 team in the A-Junior Bundesliga and the UEFA Youth League . In October 2014 he scored his first professional goal in a 2-2 draw by BVB II against VfL Osnabrück . In November 2014, he was against SC Paderborn 07 for the first time in the squad of the Dortmund Bundesliga team, for which he was not used. By the end of the season he made 31 appearances in the 3rd division for BVB II, which, however, had to relegate to the regional league at the end of the season . In the 2015/16 season, Gorenc Stankovič came again to 31 missions for Dortmund's second team.

After a total of 62 appearances for the second team, he moved to England for the second division club Huddersfield Town for the 2016/17 season . In his first season with Huddersfield, he came to seven appearances in the championship . After winning playoffs against Sheffield Wednesday and Reading FC , he rose to the end of the season with his team in the Premier League . In the first season in the top English league, however, he was not used. He made his debut in August 2018 when he started against Manchester City on matchday two of the 2018/19 season. In the game that Huddersfield lost 6-1, he also scored his first goal for Huddersfield and in the Premier League. By the end of the season he made eleven appearances in the top division, from which he and his team had to be relegated after two seasons.

After a second season for Huddersfield in the championship, Gorenc Stankovič moved to the Austrian Bundesliga club SK Sturm Graz for the 2020/21 season , with whom he received a contract that ran until June 2023.

National team

Gorenc Stankovič played for a Slovenian youth national team for the first time in April 2011. From August 2012 to March 2013 he came to eight missions for the U-17 team . In April 2013 he played his only game for the U-18 team against Switzerland .

From October 2013 to November 2014 he was used ten times for the U-19 selection . In March 2015 he made his debut against Ukraine for the U-21 team . By October 2018, he was there for 17 missions.

In March 2019 he stood against Israel for the first time in the squad of the senior team .
