Christian Ilzer (born October 21, 1977 in Puch near Weiz ) is an Austrian football coach .

Career

Ilzer acted as a coach for the first time at the age of 17, as a knee injury prevented a career as a player. From 2007 he was assistant coach of the regional league team TSV Hartberg . In 2009 the Hartberger rose to the second division . In 2011 he left Hartberg.

Between 2011 and 2013 Ilzer was the fitness trainer for the Austrian U-19 team . For the 2012/13 season he was the head coach of the national division SC Weiz .

In the summer of 2013 he was again assistant coach of Bruno Friesenbichler at TSV Hartberg. After a season at Hartberg, he became Heimo Pfeifenberger's assistant coach at SC Wiener Neustadt . After Pfeifenberger was fired, he became interim trainer for the Lower Austrians in November 2014. In his first game as head coach in professional football you could win 2-0 against Wolfsberger AC . After that game he was replaced by Helgi Kolviðsson and he became assistant coach again.

At the end of the season Wiener Neustadt was relegated to the second division. For the 2015/16 season he returned as head coach for regional division TSV Hartberg. In November 2015 he switched to Wolfsberger AC as an assistant coach, where he again supported Heimo Pfeifenberger.

In the summer of 2017 he returned to TSV Hartberg, which had meanwhile been promoted back to professional football. With Hartberg he rose to the Bundesliga at the end of the season .

For the 2018/19 season he became the coach of Wolfsberger AC, where he already worked as an assistant coach between 2015 and 2017. On November 8, 2018 it was announced that Christian Ilzer had extended his contract as coach of Wolfsberger AC until summer 2020. With the Carinthians he reached third place in the table at the end of the season and thus qualified for the UEFA Europa League .

For the 2019/20 season he was coach of the league competitor FK Austria Wien . With Austria he reached seventh place in the table and missed qualifying for the European Cup in the playoff against his ex-club Hartberg. For the 2020/21 season he switched to league rivals SK Sturm Graz .
