Robert Ibertsberger (born January 20, 1977 in Neumarkt am Wallersee ) is a former Austrian soccer player and national player and now a soccer coach .
Career
As a player
Robert Ibertsberger began his career, like his brothers Matthias and Andreas , as a youth player at SV Seekirchen in 1945 . In 1994 he joined the second division club ASVÖ FC Puch via the federal youth center in Salzburg under the coach Heribert Weber at the time . In 1996 Ibertsberger moved to Austria Salzburg . There he made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga as a substitute player on August 17, 1996 and made 19 championship appearances and three goals in the 1996/97 season . Within a short time he advanced to become a regular player for Salzburg.
On May 31, 1997 in the game against FK Austria Wien Ibertsberger suffered a serious knee injury after a foul by Rene Glatzer and was operated on. Austria Salzburg became Austrian champions at the end of the season; Ibertsberger had not played a game until then. In autumn 1998, a year and a half after the foul, he made his comeback in the SV Austria Salzburg team.
Ibertsberger played his way back into the regular team of his club and completed eight international matches for the Austrian national team . In January 2000 he moved to AC Venezia . There he could not prevail and was awarded first to Sturm Graz and then to FC Tirol Innsbruck . With the Grazern he played under coach Ivica Osim in the 2000/01 game year only in the championship because he was not eligible to play in the Champions League; With the Tyroleans he came under coach Kurt Jara in autumn 2001 on 14 missions and was Austrian champion .
In January 2002, cartilage damage was diagnosed in Ibertsberger's knee. An attempt was made to save his career with a transplant , but there was another 15-month break and convalescence . After that, he no longer achieved the performance he had before his second injury; at Venezia it was rarely used. In the summer of 2003 Ibertsberger moved back to Austria in the first division for SC Untersiebenbrunn under coach Heri Weber, whom he had known for a time together at ASVÖ FC Puch.
In the summer of 2004 Ibertsberger finally ended his career as a football player because of the cartilage damage.
As a trainer
First Ibertsberger trained the U-15 team of FC Red Bull Salzburg . In the summer of 2010 he moved to the SV Ried football academy as a U-18 coach and head of the basic department .
For the 2017/18 season he became Heimo Pfeifenberger's assistant coach at Wolfsberger AC . After Pfeifenberger's leave of absence in March 2018, Ibertsberger became head coach on an interim basis.
For the 2018/19 season Ibertsberger moved as Thomas Letsch's assistant coach to FK Austria Wien . After separating from Letsch, he became interim trainer for Austria in March 2019. After the end of the season he was replaced by Christian Ilzer .
In March 2020 he became head coach of the SKN St. Pölten .
