This also gave him the opportunity at the age of 14 to switch to the youth performance center in St. Pölten, where he was able to optimally combine his football training with further education at school. Vollnhofer graduated from the 2003 federal upper level secondary school in St. Pölten with a high school diploma.
At this time Vollnhofer had already been taken over into the squad of the SKN St. Pölten fighting team, which played in the Regionalliga Ost (third level). FC Vöcklabruck .
The goalkeeper trainer of the SKN St. Pölten, Ernst Scherr, was full of praise. “ Vollnhofer is characterized by unbelievable ambition and irrepressible commitment. He has enormous jumping power and maneuverability, plays along well and recognizes the situation at an early stage. He more than makes up for his rather small body size. "
Despite all of his footballing successes, the hobby drummer Thomas Vollnhofer made sure, according to his life motto, “ Never stop getting better, otherwise you stop being good! “With a degree in sports science for the time after his career as a footballer.
