Career

After Schimpelsberger took his first steps in football at the Upper Austrian lower house club Union Neuhofen / Krems at the age of seven , talent seekers soon became aware of little "Mike". In 2002, at the age of eleven, he moved to the youth department of the capital club LASK Linz . At the same time he played for the school team of the Sport- Hauptschule Kleinmünchen, with which he won the 2004 national championship of the soccer school league . In the summer of 2005, Schimpelsberger moved to the soccer academy of the FK Austria Wien , where he only stayed until the winter of 2006, because another move to the soccer academy of FC Red Bull Salzburg followed.

After he developed into a regular player for the Austrian U-17 national team, international talent seekers became aware of Schimpelsberger. In January 2008 he received an offer from FC Twente Enschede , whereupon he moved to the Dutch. There he was initially used in the U-19 team, but was already taken over in the summer of 2008 in the second team of the Dutch top club.

After taking part in the finals of the U-19 European Championship with the Austrian national team in the summer of 2010 , where he was the team captain in two games , Schimpelsberger was also included in the first team of FC Twente from coach Michel Preud'homme Enschede added. On October 30, 2010, Schimpelsberger made his debut as a professional footballer in the 1-0 away win at PSV Eindhoven , when he came on in the 63rd minute instead of Thilo Leugers . Only three days later, on November 2nd, 2010, he was allowed to make his international professional debut. In the away game of the Champions League at Werder Bremen , Schimpelsberger was substituted on for Rasmus Bengtsson in the 76th minute of the game , only to prepare the 1-0 for Twente Enschede by Nacer Chadli five minutes later . In the winter of 2010 he moved back to Austria to SK Rapid Vienna for a rumored transfer fee of 250,000 euros . After the contract with SK Rapid Wien had not been extended, he moved to second division FC Wacker Innsbruck in the summer of 2016 on a free transfer . With Innsbruck he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 2018 . With Wacker, he had to relegate from the Bundesliga in 2019, after which he left Innsbruck.

In January 2020 he moved to the Bundesliga club SKN St. Pölten , where he received a contract that ran until June 2021.
