Nacer Chadli (born August 2, 1989 in Liège ) is a Belgian football player . He plays for AS Monaco .

Career

In the club

Chadli played for Standard Liège and MVV Maastricht in his youth . In 2007 he moved to the Dutch club AGOVV Apeldoorn and completed a total of 90 games (29 goals) in the Eerste Divisie , the Dutch second division.

For the 2010/11 season Chadli went to the Dutch champions FC Twente . The offensive player immediately played his way into the club’s first line and stood out for his “excellent ball technique”. With his team, he finished second behind Ajax Amsterdam in the 2010/11 season , played in the group stage of the 2010/11 Champions League and then reached the quarter-finals of the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League . By summer 2013, Chadli scored 23 goals in 78 games in the Eredivisie and qualified with the team for the Europa League each season.

In July 2013, Chadli was signed by Tottenham Hotspur . With the team, he qualified for the Europa League in each of the next three seasons and regularly finished the Premier League in the top six. At the end of August 2016, he moved to league rivals West Bromwich Albion . In his second year he only made five appearances in the Premier League due to a hamstring injury and ended the 2017/18 season with the team in last place in the table.

At the end of August 2018, he joined AS Monaco for three years .

For the 2019/20 season he was loaned out by the Belgian first division club RSC Anderlecht . He played 17 out of 26 possible league games there until the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . At the end of the season he returned to AS Monaco.

In the national team

On November 17, 2010 Chadli, who is also a Moroccan citizen, played in a friendly game for the Moroccan national team against Northern Ireland (1-1). Although he had received good reviews there and was voted “Player of the Game”, he decided shortly thereafter to compete for the Belgian selection in the future. On February 9, 2011, in a 1-1 friendly against Finland , Chadli made his debut for the Belgian national football team . He scored his most important goal against Japan in the round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup with the winning goal to make it 3-2 in stoppage time. The Belgians finished the tournament in third place.
