The competition for the KNVB Cup of the 2010/11 season was the 93rd edition of the competition for the Dutch football cup called KNVB beker , directed by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbal Bond . The reigning champions FC Twente defeated the defending champions Ajax Amsterdam in the final on May 8, 2011 at De Kuip in Rotterdam, despite a 2-0 deficit 3-2 after extra time.
A total of 93 teams took part in the competition. In addition to the 18 teams from the two professional leagues Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie as well as the second division relegated FC Oss , which were seeded for the third round, these were the other 31 clubs from the top class and 25 other amateur representatives, including the 24 semi-finalists for KNVB beker voor amateurs , the cup of amateur teams; 52 of these 56 teams were already qualified for the second round, so that only four of the amateur teams competed in a first elimination round.
Surprisingly, three teams from the top class - two of them with victories over the first division clubs Excelsior and Heracles Almelo - and with VV Noordwijk a Hoofdklasse amateur team made it to the round of 16. Noordwijk was even able to qualify for the quarter-finals against third division Nijkerk, in which, however, they were defeated by the RKC Waalwijk .
All clubs from paid football got involved in this round. Teams that were in a European cup competition could not be drawn against each other. Amateur clubs had home rights if they were drawn against a professional club.
