The top class was a Dutch football league. It was the third highest soccer league in the Dutch league system from the 2010/11 season and formed the connection between the two professional leagues Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie on the one hand and the hitherto highest amateur league, the Hoofdklasse , on the other.
In 2016/17 the re-established Tweede Divisie replaced the top class as the highest amateur league. The previous top class was renamed Derde Divisie and is now ranked as the second amateur division between the Tweede Divisie and the Hoofd class, which has been downgraded to the third amateur division.
Top class mode
The top class consisted of two seasons: the top class Zaterdag (Saturday) and the top class Zondag (Sunday), in which 16 clubs each played. The respective first-placed players played the promoted team in a final. The winner was promoted to the Eerste Divisie. In the event of a waiver, the defeated finalist rose. If that person couldn't or didn't want to be promoted, there was no promoter from the top class and no relegator from the Eerste Divisie. Those in the ranks 14 to 16 in the top class were relegated, the 13th played in a playoff round with teams from the Hoofd class.
