history
In the Middle Ages arose Enter and Wierden, which was then called Wederden, amidst a westerly Almelo Moores , the few months of the year was under water. Wierden was on an old post, trade and military road and had several hostels during this time. Enter developed into a boatmen's village with a harbor and shipyards, as the Regge was easier to navigate back then than it is now, and the ships were also smaller. From around 1800 decay set in, which was offset by the manufacture of wooden shoes. The wood required was imported from Ahaus in Westphalia. The geese trade was also important in the 19th century . The people of Wierden found work in the textile industry in the surrounding towns.
