history
The name Dalfsen is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1231. Despite its favorable location on the Vechte, the place never received city rights . Opposite the village, in the middle of a beautiful forest, is the Rechteren Castle, built in 1320, which has been inhabited by the noble family of the Counts of Rechteren-Limpurg for around 600 years . For a long time there was a chestnut tree on the banks of the Vechte , which served as a high water mark . If the Vechte washed around the trunk of the tree, there was a risk of flooding. The river was diked in the 19th century .
Lemelerveld
Lemelerveld was built as a workers' settlement on the Zwolle - Vroomshoop canal near the branch to Raalte - Deventer , where a sugar factory began processing the sugar beet grown here in 1865 . A metal goods factory took over the building in 1917, which disappeared after it was closed in 2001. The village now makes a living from growing dahlias , farming and small businesses; many residents are construction workers.
Nieuwleusen
Nieuwleusen was founded in 1631 as a "veenkolonie" (settlement of peat cutters). In the 20th century , the Union bicycle factory was the village's largest employer.
Attractions
Dalfsen has a lovely old village church and a small local museum. Water sports are possible on the Vechte. The wooded area is ideal for cycling and hiking.
