Olst-Wijhe ( listen ? / I ) is a municipality in the Netherlands , province of Overijssel , with 18,105 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019). The municipality was formed on January 1, 2001 through the merger of the previous municipalities of Olst and Wijhe . In addition to Olst and Wijhe to the north of it, several smaller villages belong to the municipality, which is 118 km² in size. The community is located on the IJssel between Deventer and Zwolle . history

The place Olst is the smaller of the two main places and is a little more industrial. Wijhe has always been a rather conservative farming village. Thus there are some differences between the parts of the community. Due to the pressure for the planned territorial reform , both places merged into one municipality in 2001.

On March 26, 2002, the municipality of Olst was renamed Olst-Wijhe .

Economy and Transport

In Olst and Wijhe there are some meat processing companies. In addition, agriculture and tourism is important. Otherwise there are many commuters in the community .

The Deventer - Zwolle trains stop in Olst and Wijhe.

Attractions

There are many small country estates (landgoederen) scattered over the whole municipality. Their parks and forests are generally freely accessible to hikers. The De Duursche Waarden nature reserve is scenic along the IJssel .
