Raalte ( listen ? / I ) is a municipality in the Netherlands , province of Overijssel , with 37,527 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019). Audio file / audio sample

The municipality includes the large village of the same name and the villages of Heino , Heeten and Nieuw Heeten and several smaller localities. Raalte is considered a Catholic enclave in a Protestant area.

Raalte's partner community was Mettingen in Westphalia until 2003 .

Location and economy

Raalte is at the intersection of the Zwolle - Almelo and Deventer - Ommen roads . These cities are each 15 to 20 kilometers away. Raalte and Heino have train stations on the Zwolle – Almelo railway line. In Raalte there is a lot of agriculture and several small, mainly agricultural products processing industries.

Touristic

  • The Nijenhuis Castle (art museum, restored in 2004) is located near the village of Heino , just behind the municipal boundary to Olst-Wijhe .
  • In the village Raalte every year in late August, the traditional Thanksgiving "Stöppelhaene" with parade instead, including the well-known in the surroundings procession on Thursday. The name of this festival, held again for the first time since 1950, goes back to the custom of hanging a wooden rooster decorated with straw etc. outside the farms after the rye harvest has ended.
  • There are several small nature areas spread across the municipality.
  • Since 2004 there has been a motorcycle museum in Raalte, where you can also rent motorcycles .
