The Basilica of the Exaltation of the Cross (nl: Basiliek van de Heilige Kruisverheffing ) in Raalte , a Catholic enclave in a Protestant region, is a Roman Catholic basilica in neo-Gothic style. The church belonging to the Archdiocese of Utrecht bears the title of a minor basilica and is protected as a Rijksmonument .

The Exaltation of the Cross Church was built in 1891 and 1892 according to a design by Alfred Tepe . Based on the St. Nicholas basilica he had previously built in IJsselstein , he designed a three-aisled hall church with a tower, which in turn stands in the tradition of St. Lamberti in Münster. The equipment was donated by members of the St. Bernulphusgilde . The high altar in neo-Gothic style and two side altars were designed in the studio of Friedrich Wilhelm Mengelberg . The high altar is made of limestone with reliefs and pinnacles and has painted wooden wings . Five windows in the apse were glazed with lead . The cost of building the church, which was carried out on our own responsibility, was 148,284.84½ guilders.

The church was consecrated on October 19, 1892 by the Archbishop of Utrecht Petrus Matthias Snickers . In addition to the patronage of the Holy Cross, she now also received that of St. Anthony of Padua . The church was soon called "The Cathedral of Salland ". In 1955, the clock faces of the church tower were attached on four sides to the bell tower. To avoid leaks on flat roofs, dormers were built over them in 1966. The church was listed as a historical monument in 1974. In the same year the carillon in the 79 meter high tower of the church was commissioned. On April 25, 1992, the church was elevated to a minor basilica , which was proclaimed by Cardinal Adrianus Johannes Simonis in the celebrations for the centenary of the church . In 2008 a three-manual , pneumatic organ was installed, which was originally built in 1927 by the Adema company for the St. Michael Church in Zwolle.
