Herman van Raalte (born April 8, 1921 in Hengelo , † April 3, 2013 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch football player .

Life

Van Raalte initially played both handball and soccer , which was an advantage for the goalkeeper during his soccer career. In 1942 he moved from VV Hengelo to Blauw Wit Amsterdam as a football player . There he was promoted to national team and, although between 1946 and 1953 eleven times in the squad of the Dutch national team, played his only international match for the "Elftal" in 1948 when they met Belgium . After Piet Kraak , Frans de Munck and Wim Landman , he was usually only left with the role of substitute.

At club level, van Raalte achieved the greatest success with Blauw Wit in 1950 when the Amsterdam club was runner-up in the championship finals behind Limburgia Brunssum . In 1954 he moved to the professional club BVC Amsterdam , with which he took part in the 1956/57 debut season of the Eredivisie . In 1957 he moved back to Blau-Wit for 7,000 guilders, who from then on also played in the Eredivisie as a climber. At the age of 39, he played his last game for the club. He was also under contract with VV Leeuwarden .

Van Raalte's main job was as a textile dealer. In early April 2013, shortly before his 92nd birthday , he succumbed to a bacterial infection as a result of an operation. Up until then, he was the oldest Dutch international player still alive.
