history

King Johann Ohneland granted Hugh de Morville permission to fortify his existing mansion in 1201 (English: "License to Crenellate"). In 1314 the building was destroyed by the Scots and rebuilt in 1317. In 1485 the castle was significantly expanded and enclosed with a moat . After the death of Thomas Dacre, 2nd Baron Dacre , in 1525, the stained glass windows, wood paneling and beamed ceilings were moved to Naworth Castle .

Between 1610 and 1688, Kirkoswald Castle was partially demolished.

Current condition

The property is now on an agricultural area. It consists of the moat and some buildings, e.g. B. a tower that is still visible today. A public footpath leads to the vicinity of the property, which, however, should not be entered for safety reasons.
