) is aplaces
The main town of the municipality is Nijverdal , where the municipal administration offices are also located. Other places are the old village of Hellendoorn and some localities. The most important of these are Daarle, Daarlerveen and Haarle.
Location and economy
The municipality is located between Twenterand , Wierden , Rijssen-Holten , Raalte and Ommen , on the "Sallandse Heuvelrug", a 40 to 70 meter high, wooded ridge (Noetselerberg).
Nijverdal is the southernmost and has a train station on the Zwolle - Almelo railway line . The busy N 35 Zwolle - Almelo road runs right through the center of Nijverdal and is also the main shopping street.
A major project was started in Nijverdal in 2007 and lasted until the end of 2013. A tunnel for the railway and the N 35 road (Zwolle - Almelo) was built under the town center . The “Great Street” of Nijverdal became a pedestrian zone free of cars . The station was replaced by a new building on March 23, 2013. A new bridge was built over the Regge River , which runs east of the center. During the construction of the tunnel, the Zwolle – Almelo railway was closed for a number of years. Trains started running again from April 1, 2013.
Hellendoorn is 3 km north of Nijverdal on the edge of the forest. There are many small businesses in Nijverdal, where the once important textile industry still partly exists (Koninklijke Ten Cate , formerly Nijverdal-Ten Cate, now produces, among other things, canvas and artificial turf for sports fields).
The whole community lives mostly from tourism. There are many campsites and holiday homes, as well as an amusement park. The Ben & Jerry’s European ice cream range is produced in Hellendoorn.
history
Hellendoorn was already a not insignificant farming village in the Middle Ages .
Nijverdal only came into being around 1835 when Thomas Ainsworth settled in the area of the former Mark Noetsele. A factory settlement was built around his weaving mill, which has now reached the size of a small town. One problem is that the very busy Zwolle - Almelo road and the parallel railway line literally cut the place in two.
V2 rockets were stationed north of Hellendoorn during World War II . Attacks were also carried out from there on the Remagen Bridge after it was captured by American troops. However, none of the missiles hit the bridge. A " black day " in the history of Nijverdal was March 22nd, 1945. On this day the village was bombed by the Allies. 73 people were killed.
Attractions
Hellendoorn is home to the large “ Avonturenpark Hellendoorn ” amusement park , which was created out of a “fairytale park”.
The forests and heathland of the "Sallandse Heuvelrug" are popular with hikers and cyclists. See also Rijssen-Holten . A road built specifically for tourism in 1929 across the nature reserve connects Nijverdal with Holten . The visitor center of the national park "Sallandse Heuvelrug" with information about the flora and fauna is located near Nijverdal .
In Hellendoorn there is a small local museum and an old village church. In the summer there are some markets and festivals for tourists.
